Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

(1) What strength app, and roughly what has it got you doing?
(2) For the 90 min sessions, what are the sessions and paces used? Does 5k+1 mean your PB pace, or some other 5k pace?
(3) Is this the first time you've trained with this degree of rigour, or the first time you've augmented with weights ...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Thanks Mike :fswink:

I've been meaning to signal these, but its been all rather hectic at work etc (and that little challenge with Iain has left me a little preoccupied  ).

The PBs in question were:

1k - a solid 3s off my PB of 2019 :!: - caused by the CTC at the start of the year and very ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Nice work as ever Spider.

I've just noticed that you're clocking PB's Ian - many congratulations there - long time since I managed a true PB!

Thanks Mike - there's a few side effects to the extra training distance which I wasn't expecting certainly (though as Iain has pointed out I'm covering ...

Thanks both.

Missed this in the fog of a busy Friday - I'll take a screen grab of my overly complicated spreadsheet as it shows up the comparison to years past.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

I feel awfully ashamed at not recognising all this training going on.
Jon - those sessions will build you back without a doubt.
Spider – once again churning hours out!
Iain – much like you, my HR as a white coat syndrome issue and the moment I track it (as in see it in real time), it spikes. My ...

Re: Winter Madness

Mike (and anyone interested)….
Since Iain’s initial (un)wise original request, I’ve continued with my longer distance training. The overall cycles are 12 week rotations and since last June I’ve slowly pushed the pace to the extent that I am probably as fast/comfortable over distances from 5k-HM as I ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

As speculation, more likely that the rating was lower - taking a second look, its possible that I was adopting a more consistent pace (whether with power strokes or not) than my previous attempt....

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Can't believe how low your HR went on that last session, did you hit "the wall"? As I found that this paradoxically lead to lower HR.

I can't come up with a logical explanation as the wall was nowhere to be seen. I do tend to adopt more power strokes on the last rep of these sessions so its ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

There's a great deal to be happy about in those sessions Iain, though I'd agree after xx hours any pace is going to feel dreadful......

Today was appreciably more modest than Iain's sessions (though curiously I'm getting quite a lot of 1k-5k improvement as well as cardio ...

This was as vile as it looks - I had a negative split in mind, but that all got thrown out the proverbial window after the first split.. The blip in the last split was a momentary HD but I'm very glad to have pushed on and logged a score.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Jon – nice valuable session, particularly at that HR.
Spider – your traditional exemplary control too!
Iain – superb control for that distance.

Returning back to the standard training schedule for me, and fortunately it was this one:

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Well done everyone on keeping the thread going over the festive period.
Iain - I'll take the understatement of just 30k in good humour ^O^
Spider - very impressive negative splits
Aren - not recommending by any stretch (nor comparing) but I don't now stop for fluids on anything up to 50k. I find ...

Great row Dave - it's really a tough row (I'm really not a fan of no active rest at this pace) which makes it all the more impressive that we've got so many results. Well done team!

Spider - really impressive reps =D> =D>

Thought I'd share a low spm session for a change:

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

I think there needs to be a all round pat on back - there's definitely something in the air at the moment (not that I put huge credence in it, but HRV is all over the place and peak HR has been higher than it should be for the effort).

Spider - that type of rep when you're off colour ^O^

Iain ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Spider - watch that back! Amongst other things, r1 between 1500m reps is a tough session =D>

Iain - good UT1 session, particularly with the mentally taxing element of holding the SPM =D>

Didn't feel particularly ready for today's sessions, so quite glad it was relatively mild.

It's a nice idea (though not necessarily at full pace), but I will be working Christmas eve - or as Mrs B reminds me "I will be logged in" so limited time for a FM.

Claudius - as others have noted, hold that spm for such distances (and so consistently) is somewhat outside of my comprehension.

Iain - impressive distances still under ...

The threatened PB came to past - next to nothing in the tank and very pleased as I thought I'd outpaced myself in the first 200m.
