Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Spider - I am in awe of the consistency ^O^ Return to another 5k/marathon session: ReactNative-snapshot-image3820483637218301404~2.jpg Getting to find the mental side of the 5k reps more achievable. Fatigue is not the limiting factor and the marathon sections are doing the job of active recovery ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
The +/-30min club seems rather popular and impressively consistent well done all. My excuses start with a weekend away near Manchester so I was pretty glad my targets were quite gentle this morning. ReactNative-snapshot-image2701925630102871560~2.jpg A little bit of drift towards the end (can I ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Emander - you might try going into your profile on the metreboard to make sure it's claimed (click the "this is me" option)? You may need to redo your flag code - this happened to me previously.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Cheers Iain - go ahead with the beration.
The drop is largely down to a deep breath between 26spm and 20spm so I don't go over the rate cap. It didn't feel like an absolute stop, but sometimes the stats hold more truth than memory.....

Re: Metreboard wasteland - help
I'm also in awe of those at the top five of the MB who can do in a week what will take me a couple of months. For one, if you're doing 25k/30k a day what pace is that? From just outside those heady reaches it's bewildering. I do around 1.25/1.5 hrs in the morning to arrive at something between 19 ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Mat - inspiring and disturbing stuff. Impressive sustained power =D> Spider - nice session and -ve split as mentioned. Not much upward drift in HR towards the sharp end too =D> Felt quite fresh this morning so - with in mind that the session looked more achievable than others of late - went out with ...

Re: Autumn Cold
Have muttered about this in the training thread. Having got a relatively consistent HR monitor, when I finally recognise that a sniffle has been prolonged and no amount of wishful thinking/blaming the previous day's training can realistically explain a deficit, I have tended to back off to ut1(low ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Emander - to tag on to Iain's thoughts, what software are you using to track your sessions? I've rather settled on Ergzone (as pasted in most of my posts) which, for me at least, gives quite clear graphs and data and I've found it to be very useful for seeing the trends which Iain mentioned. Iain ...

Emander - nice session and look forward to seeing more. Spider - really consistent and you should be pleased with the comparison =D> ReactNative-snapshot-image2688799008306982897~2.jpg In theory alternating between 5k pace then marathon pace, capped HR at less than 92%. Re: Benefit of "Long" Intervals for training for long distances
Quick reply to chime in as I've been away - certainly no issue with having this discussed and very much appreciate advice and criticism of approach. Just lately I've been holding to sessions based around improving marathon times in my morning training (generally 20-22k) with bits of cardio and ...

After the spreadsheet comes the overcomplicated graph  Like Graham, I have graph envy too. Can you explain what it shows/what it does? Looks amazing. Might be worth a whole thread (hint) I certainly can do that if people are interested - and I can share the excel sheet if people so wish ...

Re: A PB/SB every time?
I have experienced this kind of thing on a number of occasions, but invariably because of a holiday break, injury, illness and most recently humid weather (!). These disrupt my “flow” and snail-like progress in terms of pace and I’m forced to take stock. Invariable this results in one of the follo ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Today 7m @ 5k pace, 8min @ marathon, 4r. Target HR 85-92%. Four rounds: ReactNative-snapshot-image1966673860367845068.jpg Positives: decent recovery to HR in the rest periods, closer to target marathon pace (around 0.5 off absolute PB pace, but the 20spm is likely limiting me), and good headroom to ...

30mins could work (decent time to stretch/refuel)? Bigger chunks overnight certainly seems best.

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Great to hear from you J-Dog - HR limited sessions are worth their weight in gold so far as I'm concerned. A really good way of building confidence and fitness. Hope to hear more on your rows in the future. Today (not really taking my own advice) was meant to be 2x 30mins, 3r. Pace is a little fuzzy ...

Great sessions above - OCD effort ^O^ and negative split =D> Mini seesaw for me today: rounds of 6min @ near 5k pace then 9min @ marathon pace, 4r in between. ReactNative-snapshot-image3742531550290589857.jpg HR target was 85-92%, and this worked out to 76-84%. So basically I'm still slacking :lol ...

Anyway got any useful insight into how much slower they are in the humid summer heat than in winter? And where does it hit first - on HR or in terms of perceived effort? Might not be useful insight, but the humidity played havoc with both peak HR and the speed at which this was reached for me, with ...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Thought provoking comment Iain. Having shifted around training regimes quite a bit, I can firmly recall HR based training really didn’t fit with me a few years ago but with the passage of time the Fletcher % limits/targets do fit well. This could very much be associated with a longer term commitment ...
