Re: Happy Birthday Commodoreann

Sounds like you two had a wonderful year (minus the knee thing) and are enjoying a fantastic retirement. I'm retiring myself on November 1 of this year at the age of 55 in the hopes I have a few good years left to enjoy a variety of things that have been "put off" for far too long. One question for ...

Re: Name that tune

Heh - finally gave up, and though I like several Linda Ronstadt songs, I can honestly say I've never heard this song before. And I'm supposedly on the right side of the Atlantic to have been exposed... :)

Re: Jokes

Peter's YouTube link reminded me of this parody song I just discovered a couple of days ago:

https://youtu.be/IABRgZH12YA

Our social-media-centric lives parodied to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. It's quite clever "in my opinion"... :D

Re: Name that tune

That's what I came up with, too Wolfy - in the spirit of helping you remember, the followup lyrics are something like:

"When I feel I can't go on, you come and hoooolld me;
It's you and me forever, ahhhhhhh"

Re: Name that tune

Hey RON Sorry, guys, been busy this weekend with sick parents... both on the mend, so okay there, but it's been hectic. So, yes, Paul, something like that... :) It goes through a few iterations of the Man from Mars eating your head, then cars, then bars, and finally, guitars...  It's a w...

Re: Name that tune

I'll try one more set of lyrics with this one - an even more obvious piece if you know the song:

And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and it lands on the ground
And out comes the man from Mars

Your turn, sir! Awesome! Thanks for the trivia - I'd completely forgotten about the Denver version... Re: Name that tune

Peter, like Paul, I gave up and Googled... found out I really like the song and the artist, but apparently don't know many of the lyrics! :D Listened a little more closely (in my, ahem, older age), and appreciated the song more than ever. P.S. I have no idea what that last bit of gibberish you poste...

 The great Aretha Franklin ... I know, I know - blasphemy, heresy, etc... :) She was a little before my time as I'm a child of the late 70's & 80's. That, and I'm not very sophistimicated... :D Anyway, here's the next clue. If you read/sing with the right tempo, this could be a dead giveaway...

I've got a couple different ideas on how to go about with the clues. I've decided to go slightly unconventional. The lines are sequentially correct, but neither is entirely complete.

Put on a little make-up...

Sorry Ron, The Weight is a different song by the same band.
I'm not surprised, I didn't have a lot of confidence. I'm guessing that I'm recalling some of your lyrics from watching "The Last Waltz", but The Weight is the only song of theirs that I can actually (eventually) name... :D

And sorry, I do that all the time with this song - I meant "The Weight"!!

The lyrics talk about "take a load off", and I don't recall hearing "weight" in there, so I always go to "The Load" first.... LoL...

Re: Name that tune

Peter, is this "The Load"? I watched "The Band" documentary a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it though I'd (ashamedly) never heard of them before that! In reading your clues, I almost guessed "The Load" by "The Band" earlier, but had no confidence in my prowess.

Re: AUG CTC - 'Dog Days Double Double'

I assume it reflects the different date conventions used in the US and Europe. We use day-month-year, they use month-day-year. So 318 = 31st of August, 831 = August 31st. Take it from an Indiana boy - it's all true. Interestingly, the company I work at recently switched enterprise software vendors ...
