Re: Marathon Training.

I have just done my first semi hard row for a long time, as have had bad back, bad feet and a virus to cope with since xmas. Not 100% but I going to start next week, easy to start. I have had a look at both plans now, and there are bits of both I like but neither are what I think I should be doing. ...

Re: Marathon Training.

WOW!!! That is some row you are going to take on, and on open water! Against wind tide and waves!! rather than the comfort of one’s own home or at a gym =D> ^O^ . Sound like you should be training for a 50K+ race rather than a mere marathon. I have just quickly read the plan, and most of it seems so...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

I have 3 new personal bests in the last couple of months. 13th Oct – 10K 39:04.2 only a 2 second improvement on last season, so happy I could still do it. 21st Oct – 1/2M 1:24:09.9 only 3.2 seconds improvement on last season, so again, happy I could still do it. 30th Oct – failed Marathon 5th Nov – ...

I like it, and after the Decembers sprints good idea to do a nice longer strait row :D

Re: New toy! (PM5 monitor)

The Energiser batteries supplied with my C2 lasted about two weeks before i was having trouble with them. I noticed that with the memory stick inserted, the battery level dropped quite a bit. so i have presumed that the PM5 is reading a simple voltage test and does not take into account any extra lo...

Re: October CTC: 10k unrestricted

Joined a late night 10k online and rowed the first thousand as a warmup at 2:13 and 21 spm. Then picked up the pace and stayed at a solid 26 for the remainder. Happy with it, and it's a PB by 19 seconds. Final split avg 2:06.4 at 25 spm. fantastic to be able to take 19 sec's of your PB well done!! ...

Re: The January CTC will be our choice

For me a good challenge is - Something different !! – something that you don’t normally do that’s challenging, preferably one you can’t easily predict your position in the table. So many of these CTC's are middle distance intervals or strait rows. So I like - Restricted stroke rate - 18 spm would be...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

I Have been trying to get back into rowing since beginning of September, after spending most of my summer re-landscaping my front garden. Even last week HD on what i normally think is an easy HM, limped home on another HM in 1:33:32.1 oh what pain. :? On Saturday looked at The CTC and though...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

As the end of season is fast approaching, I decided I needed to get a better time in for the marathon (sub 3Hour preferably). So gave it a go last night, but should have had a few days rest first, as I think I could have done better :( . Also found satsuma segments for some reason slowed me down a l...

Re: 100k Advice

Hi zoot , I can remember seeing a documentary a long time ago, and it explained that when we are younger we produce more of a chemical that acts like a pain killer, and as we get older we produce less of this chemical, thus as we get older we feel pain more intensively. I bet if you tried the same r...

Re: 100k Advice

do you remember roughly what pace you set off at in the 100k for example? when you were doing your long rows once a week did you do them at 100k pace or flat out? My objective was to do it in less than 2:24/500 pace giving 7:50:00 The trouble is when you set the PM for 100k it doesn’t allow you to ...

Re: 100k Advice

Hi NB I’m fairly new to rowing, only about 18 months but- I did a 100k back in January, but mine was a suck it and see approach, I did read up on long distance cycling, as there wasn’t much on long distance rowing. The times and effort are about the same so I thought it was close enough. I did my 10...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

PB by accident…. On Thursday tried to do the CTC in about the same time as Alan, but as I was doing the third interval notice my heart rate went up from 150 to 157 in a few seconds so thought it prudent to stop there and wait for it to return to something more normal. Then did a slow 2k, and r...
