Re: The Pete Plan etc

Welcome John, nice to have some more company here as Spider and I have been keeping the thread going for some time now! The PP was designed to be started conservatively and increased slowly. Negatively splitting is good. Do you know approx. what your HRMax is? Without that HR data is not very infor...

Re: What are your priorities for 2023/4 Season

At 63, I'm happy to be able to still put in a decent workout. Friends and family are starting to show their age, though in some cases "It's not the years, it's the miles". I take a statin and a few supplements, and feel grateful that's all I need. I'm a lot more forgiving, and much less co...

Finally got through a complete cycle of the Pete Plan 10K. Today I did the 8x500 r3:30 session for the third time. Re: The Pete Plan etc

Evening All, I haven't completed the first pass through all three weeks of the Pete Plan 10K, but am already seeing some great results (based on MY abilities  ). Today was my personal best 60 minute row, though not my best 10K. Up to 115 on the Meterboard and halfway to my next million meters, ...

Re: Meter board banter

Wow, broke into the one-teens! Didn't expect that. Was having a great row, one of those where you think "If I can just hold this for an hour, I'll shatter my 10K and 60 minute PBs, but I'm not sure I'll make it" kind of rows, when I got an unusual twinge in my L knee. I'll try to ease thro...

Re: Meter board banter

I was in 126 when I last looked, so will keep my eyes open for you! I do various PP sessions. The PP thread in the training area has gone quiet recently, would be good to have some company! The Pete Plan topic is too scary and full of overachievers. There's even some guy with bike race screen grabs...

Re: Meter board banter

Back on the Pete Plan 10k, but as I qualify for AARP and Ohio Buckeye (consolation prizes for making it to my 6th decade) I'm taking more days off (3 instead of 1 per week) and doing other things. Climbed 32 spots on the meterboard, but no aspiration to break into the top 100 from my current 141 spo...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Another great day! First time since August, 2018 that I pulled for over 60 minutes and over 10,000 meters in one sitting without any breaks. Up to 157 on the Meterboard (or so I think - it will be a while until it updates). Good progress on the next million meter mark too. Loom playlist this time (m...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Landmark day for me! First time since August, 2018 that I pulled for over 60 minutes and for over 10,000 meters in one session. Considering how quickly I've ramped up training this year, it went quite well and better than expected, and jumps me four spots on the Meterboard. Putting on a Hans Zimmer ...

Re: Meter board banter

I too have resurrected my machine from under a dusty trove of stuff. I've set a goal of at least on more asterisk on the Lifetime Millionaires board, though it's unlikely to be this season. Meanwhile, I feel great that I'm almost competitive with the ceramic cat on the windowsill, and both of us are...

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread

Hi Iain, The appropriate pace will depend upon size and sporting background, but I would suspect that most men under 70 can comfortably row at 2:30 pace, maybe 2:40 over an extended session if using a slow rating and having done little endurance work. I think you are mistaking me for someone with co...

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread and Cheetos

Thank you Ian for the comprehensive answers! It makes sense to me that rowing before breakfast has to pull calories from storage after using up the muscle glycogen; afterwards I hope the next calories consumed go to replenishing the muscles before going to fat. Fortunately rowing before fueling does...

Re: Lifetime Millionaires Club

Hi,

I've returned to rowing, but seem to have fallen off the Millionaires Club board :( . May I apply for readmission? I have hopes of breaking 8M meters this year.

Thanks,
John B.

Re: 2021 Weight Loss thread

Hi, This is my first post to this thread, and I'm delighted it exists. In the past, my calorie needs have decreased as I aged and changed my exercise routines, but they were always accompanied with a decrease in appetite. This time is different--in the past two months, I've gained 10 pounds, putting...

Re: Injuries.....:(

Hello World I'm Back! Last year I had progressive left shoulder and bicep pain that forced me to quit rowing. After lots of PT that didn't solve the issue, I finally got an MRI. I'd already been diagnosed with Shoulder Impingement Syndrome, and the MRI showed a partial tear of the sub-scapular tend...

Re: Injuries.....:(

Coming at this from the other side--I've had to take a break from yoga and strength training because I strained my shoulders, but I can still row. Apparently I reactivated the shoulder impingement syndrome and strained the muscles in my rotator cuff, particularly the biceps tendons. It's that kind o...

Me too! Probably the last season I'll pass two 1M meter milestones in a year for awhile. My C2/PM5 is holding up much better than I am, and it still pulls like new. What a great machine!

Hi, Resurrecting this old thread with new information. According to the New York Times, heat can aid in restoring glycogen levels in depleted muscles: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/01/well/move/running-a-marathon-think-hot-tub-not-ice-bath-afterward.html The conclusion: As with the young men’s and...
