Re: Injuries.....:(

Coming at this from the other side--I've had to take a break from yoga and strength training because I strained my shoulders, but I can still row. Apparently I reactivated the shoulder impingement syndrome and strained the muscles in my rotator cuff, particularly the biceps tendons. It's that kind o...

Re: Web site renewal

Add my thanks and donation as well! Free Spirits is motivational marvel, and I'm grateful for the Meterboard and the Forums, both of which keep me company in my rowing. I'm very happy to help support this fine group of folks who have come together thanks to the website. Without it, I'd just be .... ...

Me too! Probably the last season I'll pass two 1M meter milestones in a year for awhile. My C2/PM5 is holding up much better than I am, and it still pulls like new. What a great machine!

Re: I love my heating pad!

Hi, Resurrecting this old thread with new information. According to the New York Times, heat can aid in restoring glycogen levels in depleted muscles: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/01/well/move/running-a-marathon-think-hot-tub-not-ice-bath-afterward.html The conclusion: As with the young men’s and...

Inline skating! The closest part of the local 50+ mile bike trail (LIttle Miami State Park in Ohio USA) is being repaved this month so it will be smooth skating for 14 miles.

I don't post much 'cause I don't have much to say, but I do read a lot of posts and really appreciate the group wisdom and give & take--although I wish there was a standard set of units because I can't figure out what people are saying half the time. Lactic acid levels, HR zones (3? 4? 5?), the 'dea...

Thanks Greg! That's an intense looking plan, with two workouts a day. Would you suggest any adaptations to the AM workout if I can only squeeze in one row a day?

Re: The Pete Plan

Thank you Plummy and Grobi. I'm printing it out now. I'm just starting the third rep of the three-week Pete Plan, and will try a marathon at the end. Then I'll take up the distance training and see how much better I can get.

Re: The Pete Plan

Hi, I've been following the regular Pete Plan aimed at improving one's 2K time, and have had great success in driving down my interval times and increasing my strength and aerobic capacity. In reality I'm more of a distance rower. I tried searching for "Pete Plan Marathon" but the FS website search ...

Re: Global Marathon Challenge

Padding is important. I've done both HMs and FMs, and use a closed-cell 1/2" foam pad wrapped in a dish towel under a gel pad designed for use in a canoe or kayak. Yesterday I got off the C2 every 30 minutes for about 3 minutes of moving & stretching during a FM. Added significantly to my time, but ...

2015-16 season successes & lessons

I don't think anyone has started one of these for this season yet, and I hope I'm not jinxing anything by starting before the season is over (at least here in the USA). I've had a great season, thanks to Free Spirits. Unless Plummy pops one of his 100km rows, I'm safely in 30th on the Meterboard, a ...

Distance record for me: 122,234 meters in one week which puts me over 3M lifetime and almost 2M season, as well as jumping four places on the Meterboard (back into the 20s  ). I found that getting more push from my calves drops my 500m split times several seconds while at the same time allo...

Re: Meterboard 2 - bugs and feature requests

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for your work on the Meterboard. It is a terrific motivator for me! I'm not seeing the marathon and half-marathon icons. Is that due to the C2 website update, or have they disappeared for some other reason?

Thanks,

Re: I love my heating pad!

Hi Paul, Sounds like the answer to my prayers! I tend to suffer a lot from lower back pain and have cushions for my back at my desk, in my car, etc. etc. What kind of heating pad is it and where did you get it (and more importantly, where can I get it)? I got mine at the local Walgreens, which is a ...

I love my heating pad!

Hi Free Spirits, Searching didn't turn up any instances of "heating pad", so I hope this may be useful. I had been suffering from sore back muscles this rowing year. This wasn't from injury (I know what that feels like), but from taxing my back muscles several times a week. I was thinking it was jus...
