That is really a session beer.

I'd not recommend the unfiltered version (made me quite ill) but some like it.

Re: Belgian Beer

Had a Westmalle Trappist Dubbel last night.

Quite complex. Definite caramel in there and yet a little bitter/dry.

Worth a try.

Re: 2k Challenge (Aim to improve your 2k - pick your target)

This is a great idea. I’m so busy with “life” getting in the way at the moment that I don’t really have the ability to structure training with a goal like a 2k and so I won’t join you right now.

Hopefully you will get some more takers though.

Belgian Beer

I promised an update on my Belgian adventure, in particular the beer I enjoyed, which was most of it.

My wife and I went to Ghent for a 5-day break. I am determined to try to avoid air travel as much as possible and so we are exploring various cities which can be reached relatively easily by train ...

That's an epic attempt, Jon, especially considering all of the obstacles that you had to overcome. And all that excellent beer too.
(What was your favourite, BTW? Always enjoy a Leffe Blonde, appreciate a good Delirium Tremens, and recently made the acquaintance of Cherry Chouffe!)

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?

First time since May 2023 that I've got to 30 minutes without a HD so a new SB by default at 6737m. Also gets me an additional Nonathlon score. Big question is could I get to 10km - not managed one of those since August 2022!
Great progress Mr P. I’m sure that 10k isn’t far away.

It looks like it is going to be a battle for 4th, 5th and 6th between us, Greenville and the Chinese team ahead of us (Google says the translation of their name is "Rowing is also available").

Well done to Alan for becoming our first 200K rower in the event.

Short strokes to get up and running.

6-8 full strokes at maximum power.

Settle to target pace until 500m to go.

Remind myself at mid point that this feels very bad, but it will not feel any worse until the last 500m when the pace starts to increase, and by then the finish will be 'in sight ...

March ctc - 1995 (100m/30''r/900m/30''r/900m/30''r/500m)

I haven't posted about it, but I hurt my lower back quite badly while throwing everything at the CTC last month. I got a good time (for me) but it was definitely not worth the pain and the inconvenience, especially since I have a lot going on at home and was unable to do anything useful for more ...

Re: Anyone had any RECENT Bests lately?

Finally managed a decent result today, after over a week struggling to get a clear positive form indicator I finally had a decent indicator on yesterday's slow HM (possibly helped by having had, SHOCK HORROR, a day OFF on Saturday).

So decided today was the day to try for the HM SB. I had a ...

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard

Hi, can someone please update me from (H) to (L), as I haven't been heavyweight for some months now, and basically the only time I am over 75kg in my life is usually when I am out-of-shape/overweight for my height/build. Re: I really need to stop fearing the 2k and get on with it

I came across a really good video years ago which was, on the face of it, just about pacing a 2k but actually had some great insights into what was happening to you physiologically and what your brain was telling you. I found it very helpful when my head was saying “This can’t continue” and I knew ...
