Re: February ctc - 3x2k, 5‘r, no restrictions

Second attempt today, didn't have the guts to start my first rep in the same pace as my last one of the first try, but rep 2 and 3 were faster, and the first one was faster then the first two last time. Bit complicated when reading it back, sorry... And there was me thinking this rowing lark was st...

Re: February ctc - 3x2k, 5‘r, no restrictions

Thought I'd try this to find out how bad my ability is after so long of not being on the erg (not that my ability was much good first time around), and that I've only been back for a month or so. As expected I'll prop up the bottom of the rankings and my weight will probably have sunk any boat I mig...

Re: Rowing for Weight Loss & Motivation

I did see the zwift thread of Claudius. thanks. Unfortunately it confirmed that Zwift isn't currently really suited to the erg, making it work is a bit of a cludge. Shame that Zwift were looking to develop a specific rowing module, but have shelved it. Hadn't seen the EXR app. Will have to take a mu...

Re: Rowing for Weight Loss & Motivation

Adonic perfection. That's the best laugh I've had for a while  Not that sure I like the idea of continuing through pain, but yes I do need to push myself with a some timed rows simply to establish that fitness is showing some dividends and that, if I don't push, increasingly the slow ...

Re: Virtual Team Challenge

Congrats to all participants, and thanks to JonT for the analysis graph even if Concept 2's servers didn't always play ball. There might be a small error somewhere as with the challenge ended it's still showing a projected distance higher than actual for most rowers. However creating target bandings...

Re: Rowing for Weight Loss & Motivation

Thanks Iain for your thoughts 70% HR on the formula is 117 bpm for me. At the moment even a few minutes walk would bring that up, let alone some time on the erg. I have no idea what my actual, safe max HR actually is, other than the formula. In practice, I'm now finding that if I let the HR reach up...

Re: Rowing for Weight Loss & Motivation

So I should slow down a bit and not hope for instant results? Back of my mind I know this is long haul but, for motivation I do need to see change occurring else I will quickly become disenchanted and wonder why I'm bothering. At the moment, having started from a negligible fitness base, any exercis...

Re: Rowing for Weight Loss & Motivation

Hmm, I had been on a one man mission to support the local takeaways during lockdown. I get the message that isn't a good idea for my waistline. But more seriously I'll have to do better understanding and balancing intake. I'll take a look at that app thanks. I do have the heart strap. But I think th...

Re: Rowing for Weight Loss & Motivation

hmm, thanks. Don't like the diet bit. Just getting on the rower has very much increased the appetite. I've never been what some might call sporty. My best times in my sig were hard work and even years later far from enjoyable. Chasing improving times is not going to win me medals and indeed risks tu...

Rowing for Weight Loss & Motivation

So, after a few years away from the erg (ultimately I got disillusioned and bored with it, and the constant aches and pains and trips to the physio, so quietly slunk away), my weight has got out of control over the last year - now tipping the scales at 19st (120kg) which is most unhealthy for a 56 y...

Good time for a first FM. You have my sympathies regarding the numb backside issue, I find it's the biggest deterrent to attempting the FM.

Re: 2016 weight loss thread

Having not erged since early Sept, I then indulged in an almost all inclusive "activity" holiday. That should have been sort of sporting with sailing stuff and even tennis (or in my case I have a bat but where did the ball go) however one of the main activities involved emptying of walled ...

Re: Free Spirits meta-nonathlon

Just to clarify, I'm not asking for any bonus for getting a clean (green) sweep. The suggestion is from David. You'll already be well up the leader board if you go green so no extra I bonus is needed. The motivation to go green is it looks good and you can give yourself a pat on the back for doing b...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Plummy, I should have listened to you, but ..... 500m in 1:32.2 was 1:32.5 in June 2016. A minimal improvement of 0.3 seconds, but I suppose over a short distance there can only be marginal gains. 100m 0:19.7 34spm @ 1:38.5/500 136HR 200m 0:19.5 31spm @ 1:37.5/500 141HR 300m 0:19.8 30spm @ 1:39.0/50...

Re: September CTC: Tribesports Ten

Some impressive rows going on. ^O^ Tako the erg jumping around at sprint speeds is a common problem. At Madchester (a FS gathering earlier this year) a number of us were standing on the ergs to hold them down whilst the musclemen pounded away. At the pace you are going you must have good technique a...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Some good efforts being put in by many. =D> ****************************** I needed to get some scores on the board in the Nonathlon for this year since I've been slacking so far, and my Metanonathlon status is somewhat appalling. It seems a little bit of interval stuff on the erg, combined with som...

Re: New toy! (PM5 monitor)

The PM5 memory only holds a few workouts. The USB stick (or the logcard) should be able to remember them all. A lot of the rows I do are re-rows of an older workout, whether that is interval, set distance, whatever. It's also very useful for only setting up some of these weirder CTC challenges just ...

Re: New toy! (PM5 monitor)

Well now I'm livid. This morning I set a PB for the 2k. Not by much but it was a PB. Then this afternoon I did a re-row of a 10x2k interval. In other words the USB stick was reading OK at the beginning of this afternoon's workout. Completed the work out, stepped away from the erg to do a few stretch...
