Re: Any experiences with Hip Replacement / Osteo-arthritis?
HI, I had a replacement hip abut 4 years ago. As I was rowing at the time I asked the consultant if I could have a special hip replacement to enable me to continue rowing. He agreed to this and I was able to continue rowing as I had before. I looked up the hip on the internet and it really is Hi Tec...

Hi,
With reference to the problem of getting in to see ones position on the lifetime millionaires board. No matter how many times you ask for permission, nothing happens. You just can't get in.

Re: Injuries.....:(
I too have been looking after my diet for a number of years now, especially my saturated fat. In fact I managed to get my cholesterol down to 2.1. I use a food diary and input all my daily food (it is a pain in the butt but to my mind worth it). The diary also has limits for Fat, saturated fat, suga...

Re: Injuries.....:(
Hi Zoot, As someone who has had 2 Heart attacks,A quadruple bypass, Prostate cancer, has a replacement hip, peripheral neuropathy and has recently been diagnosed with spinal stenosis. I still row between 20 to 25 km a week and am aiming at a HM soon. I recently did the best 500m time that I've done ...

Re: Injuries.....:(
Now for some really good news. Today I managed my first 10K row since my hip operation. The hip is going great and doesn't present me with any problems when rowing. Weight bearing when walking however, is a different matter.. Not the hip but muscles not use to walking in a straight manner after walk...

Re: Injuries.....:(
Thanks Wolfie and Plummy. Yes I will take it easy. I have experience of biding my time and working up to fitness during my rehab after my heart op.
So I guess its here we go again. Never the less, I am enjoying my rowing again, which is the main thing.
Dave.

Re: Injuries.....:(
Re Paul Victory saying "Here I am again on this thread". Here I am again on this thread. I spent 2 years working my way back up the ranking board (not too far up, but improving, after my heart by pass op, then comes my total hip replacement. Luckily, I found a surgeon willing to give a fai...

Re: Injuries.....:(
I have decided that I will no longer post in "Injuries". I am doing very well with my sessions and have taken lumps off my 5K time (nowhere near my previous times yet, but "softly softly catchee monkey"). Resistance training is still a bit painful but they said my chest muscles w...

Re: Injuries.....:(
Despite all these injuries there is hope out there! I have just achieved two 5k rows on consecutive days. We will pass on the times. However, my resting heart rate is down to 49 bpm for the first time since before my heart op. I have found that I can take care of my own training and am pushing my he...

Re: Injuries.....:(
Good news!!! Just returned to training again after a second operation. It seems that either during or after my bypass op my Xiphoid bone (or hard cartilage) was fractured and had to be removed. It never rains, but it pours does it? Anyway as I said, resuming rowing again. Over Christmas I have been w...

Re: Injuries.....:(
I am currently returning to rowing after what I suppose is an injury. After rowing up to 70k a week and reaching well up the world rankings for HM (8th), a couple of seasons ago, I continued rowing on a regular basis until June of this year. I then caught a bug which turned into a chest infection. A...

Re: Season 2015/2016
I am looking forward very much to next season. As some of you will know from previous posts that I have had a washout season as far as times are concerned due to a nasty chest/back injury. A great Sports Physio and an Osteopath managed to sort me out but told me that an inguinal hernia that I had fo...

Re: Lifetime Millionaires Club
Made it!!
4 Million metres. I thought that this season would be a washout due to my injury, but I have managed 430K so far (at a pace where the snails live).
I think this probably deserves a gold star Plummy.

Re: Injury
Last post on this subject. Having been abandoned by the Doctors (they held their hands up and said we don't know what the problem is, take some paracetamols and come back in a few weeks). I smell a whiff of ageism here as they both at different times said words to the effect of "should you be d...

Re: Injury
Hi John, I think that my technique is OK (one can always improve however). This injury has been going on since January. Since I have put aside Angina as a problem, I think that I will re-visit the Doctor and ask him to investigate the real problem. A scan would be useful. It must have progressed in ...

Hi, Don't know if anyone is still looking at this particular forum but here goes anyway. Had my appointment (after a 3 months wait) at the Cardiologist for suspected (not by me though) angina. He confirmed what I thought, that in fact I didn't have angina!!!!! :D I took with me a printout of my trai...

Re: Injury
Hi John, Very interesting to hear about the overtraining injury. Mine happened in February and I haven't quite got over it yet. It started as a bad pain across the top of my chest (after I over trained and about a week afterwards). I then spent about 5 months where I couldn't pick up bags of shoppin...

Re: Injury
My doctor doesn't seem to get passed the fact that I had a heart attack 15 years ago ( one of the reasons I got fit, initially by walking and eventually running). About three years ago I found the delights (sometimes!) of rowing. Since that time 15 years ago I have been extremely fit. I keep trying ...

Re: Injury
Thank you, nervtoeter, Barbara and Paul for your kind comments. I tried a 2k next day and was quite successful. However, the day after I had quite a lot of pain, hopefully just a result of using muscles that haven't been used for a number of months. Over the last few months I have kept to the static...
