Re: Lifetime Millionaires Club

Thanks Plummy! I used to work as Courier in Manchester a few years back, I know Sale reasonably well. Hardly a neighbour though, I'm only visiting my son and family for about a month, then back here to the sun. 8)

Re: Lifetime Millionaires Club

I've not been doing a lot of rowing lately, a bad attack of sinusitis after a 10k back in August when it was about 35°C in the sweat room sort of jaded me a bit. Anyway, I thought I'd be able to hit 4kk metres before I head over to the UK for Christmas and I stuck the last 6k on today. Istanbul on M...

Re: October 2013 - celebrating the life of Gaye McOnie

I've been off the rower for a couple of months but I've counted myself in. Is that OK? 1 = Dave McOnie (Kiwican) 2 = commodore Ann 3 = Peter S 4 = webberg 5 = Bill Wright 6 = Kathryn Hewitt 7 = Jason Hewitt 8 = Alan Wisniewski (Strider) 9 = Paul Gould 10 = Stan 11 = Paul Victory 12 = Stumpy 13 = Daz...

Re: A big(ish) year

I've managed to do 2 million metres this season but I've had to put a bit of effort in the last few weeks when I realised I could do it. My trouble is, it's getting warm here now - 30°C here today and rowing in the heat is very draining so I have a tendency to cut back on the mileage during the summ...

13417 metres done 17:30 - 18:30 local time - 15:30 - 16:30 BST

It also just happens to be the number of metres needed to finish the season on exactly 2 million metres.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Thanks guys, the encouragement has been a great boost. 500 metres today and no big numbers I'm afraid but a final PB to see out the season - 1:40.5 an improvement of 2 seconds. It was awful, stroking a lot faster than I normally do, always seeming to be chasing it - it wasn't comfortable. Maybe i di...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

One down and one to go! With time running out for this season I thought I'd better bite the bullet and get one of the two events knocked off (or at least have a go  ) so had a bit of a warm up and then went for the 1000 metres. To make sure I got over the 850 points on the Nonathlon table I re...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Doug, I feel more comfortable & efficient going at slower stroke rates (26-30) rather than pumping out 36-38spm so will setting the DF higher mean I can go faster on the short distances for a given stroke rate? I stroke around 24 - 25 normally and for the shorter distances 26 - 27. I hit 30 onc...

Re: WAARC - April 2013 - 60min

If you apply Paul's Law (which states that you slow down by 5 seconds per 500m for each doubling of the distance), you get a reduction of around 4.7 to 4.8 seconds per 500m, depending on your pace over 30 minutes. Maybe Paul starts off too fast. :D Or maybe I don't put enough effort in early on. :(

Re: The Long Road Back From Illness/Injury

For a fleeting moment some time back I thought I'd set your phenomenal performances as targets but then I realised you'd already beaten me with 4 CAB grafts to my 3. And you were a Royal Marine and me just a Pongo and a logistician at that. :( But it was very much your comment on the C2 forum that t...

Re: The Long Road Back From Illness/Injury

If the doc had said "You've got lung cancer" I wouldn't have been surprised, I've sucked in enough diesel fumes over the years from a life that revolved around road transport for a lot of it. But he didn't. He said "You've had a heart attack". That was in 2006 and 2 days after ou...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

:D :D :D :D :D My apologies for pretty much hogging this thread recently but I've been going well the last couple of months, spurred on a bit by my desire to get 850 points for each event on the Nonathlon and with all the encouragement from you guys. So, it was the 5000m today that got knocked off -...

Bashed out the April event today - 16 minutes 19 seconds and beat last years distance by just over 100 metres coming in at 4151 metres.

Felt quite good!

Re: April CTC: 639m.

My first go at it as well - 2:16.2 There might be a bit more to come later in the month but it's a bit short for me this one. :( Quite a bit down on my season's best 500 pace so I will go again.

Still need one more HW to fill the second boat.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

Row for 90 minutes. Don't stop. :D Like all of these longer distances I think it's about pace; both 500 metre pace and stroke rate. I've done all of my longer rows at around 24 spm which suits me and while my times have come down fairly significantly I still simply try and start at the pace I intend...
