Re: 2020 weight loss thread

https://i.imgur.com/zvMbDmu.jpg?1 Not much to report here..just pretty steady for a few weeks. I finally broke down this week and brought the erg indoors because it's been too hot over he past four weeks to work out outside. On Monday I felt like I'd completely lost all the progress I've made since...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

It looks like I've gotten back on track, somehow. It's a bit surprising, since I haven't been able to do much erging this week due to the weather. My Model C is outside, in the shade, but outdoors nonetheless. The heat wave we've been experiencing here in Southern California has made it difficult to...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

I'm a couple of days late in posting this, but it's my weight from Wednesday morning when I usually check in. I gave a little back on vacation but, all things considered, it's not too bad. What I'm really worried about is that we are starting about 5 days of what's supposed to be 90+ degree weather....

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?

At my age I don't have any real hopes of setting any PBs on timed pieces, but I've been concentrating on putting in as much distance as I can. I'm not very fast but, with the right music, I can row for quite a while. Last week I had a PB, at least in the nine years I've been saving workouts online, ...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

I stepped up my time on the erg a little last week and it seems to have paid of. Dropped a full lb since last Wednesday. https://i.imgur.com/yLq607R.jpg?2 I'll be going on a one week trip next week and being away from the erg will be challenging. I'll do my best to avoid the fried breakfasts... :win...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

Paul, it's good to see you're back on the right track. A pretty nice reduction in the last week.

I'm still moving, slowly, in the right direction.

I'm on vacation, away from the erg, the week after next. So we'll see how that goes.

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

Good luck Paul. Don't get too frustrated - remember you're in it for the long run. I've been very lucky this year. Healthy enough, for the most part, to work out regularly. And with working from home I have more time than ever before to do it. I had to take a week off in June because I jammed my rin...

Thanks Dave. We installed it 20 years ago when we still had kids at home. They’re both gone but we still get a lot of enjoyment from it.

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

OK, here's my result from this morning. Looks like I'm getting back on track. When I saw my Doctor on March 12 he gave me a goal of 10 to 12 pounds in six months. It's been four months (minus three days) and I've lost almost 16 pounds, so I'm happy with that. https://i.imgur.com/1rPnX0t.jpg?1 I weig...

Re: Tell us about your Holiday plans

Thanks Wolfmeister. Yes, Tahoe City is on the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe. And you're right, not much of a "city" but definitely a beautiful spot. Just a few minutes drive from the Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski areas, and close to Truckee. A lot of people go there to ski in the win...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

Nice work Paul.

I weighed myself this evening and came up with 216.4 lb (97.25 kg) but that was just after rowing 15 km in 86 deg weather, so I’m not counting it. I’ll weigh in again on Tuesday or Wednesday morning and see where I am then.

Re: Tell us about your Holiday plans

My wife and I were scheduled to go to Italy for two weeks in late August to celebrate her 70th birthday. We have never been to Europe together, and my stepdaughter was going to rent a villa in Tuscany and fly us there first class. We would have been there with her and our two grandchildren. This, ob...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

Unfortunately the pool isn't long enough to row in.

Barely long enough for lap swimming.

Re: Cover for Model C

My new cover finally came yesterday. It cost $55 from Concept 2. I also ordered new footpads and a new chain guide. https://i.imgur.com/tfV8N3G.jpg?1 I moved my erg outdoors from the garage last week. This is what I look at now while I row. It's a much nicer view than the inside of my garage. I shou...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

Not such a good week for me either, at least in the weight loss area. We had a small Father's Day pool party in our yard on Sunday. It's the first time since March that we've seen our two (grown) children and their "significant others." I'm afraid that I have some work to do to counteract ...

Re: Musical Opinions - add yours here :-)

First time I saw Van Morrison was in 1972 at Stanford University, when I was in high school in Palo Alto, CA. The next time I saw him was almost 40 years later in 2009 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. During one set they re-created the entire Astral Weeks album. Second set was mostly old favor...

Re: Musical Opinions - add yours here :-)

When I row I have to have music, or I just can't do it. It has to be familiar and it has to be loud enough to hear over my Model C. I can't stand earbuds so I use a Bose Mini II Soundlink wireless speaker. I seem to prefer live recordings, maybe because the songs tend to be longer and there's a lot ...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

Thanks Paul. That seems like a worthy goal and would put me at my lowest weight in 10 years. 210 lb in American English... At that time I had been on a low carb diet, which wasn't sustainable in the long run. This time I'm doing it differently and actually enjoy the change in diet. I'll make 95 kg m...

Re: 2020 weight loss thread

I'll play along. Bur first some background. I've had my Model C since 1994 and had times when I use it a lot and some years when I've given it up almost completely. Last year was one of those years. I only did 355 km in the 2018/2019 season and 631 km in the 2019/2020 season, most of that in 2020. I...

Cover for Model C

Hello All, This has probably been answered here before but I can't find anything, so I figure I'll start it up again. I have a Model C rower (bought new in 1994!!), which has been in my garage since Day 1 (not the same garage since then, though). I find that I need to move it outdoors at least tempo...

Re: Gloves for rowing, or am I just a softie?

These gloves are made for mountain biking, but they work very well to protect my hands from blisters.
