Re: The B's in Boston

Greg, I will keep my eyes out for you. Maybe after you expend yourself, we can have a beer. Are there any other Free Spirits who would take a few spirits?

The B's in Boston

Even if I cannot row yet (after knee replacement) I am planning on going to CRASH B's to meet the people. Any Freespirits coming to race or spectate?

The long road back to the Metal Mistress

Hi Folks, I have not been able to row for nearly a year now. I miss the Metal Mistress a lot but keep her oiled and dusted in the rec room. After many years at sea, with the Navy, being pounded around by abusive ship drivers, my back is not in good shape. I have three degenerative discs in my lower ...

Re: October CTC - 3,861 metres

WOW - XIV boats afloat. =D> =D> =D> That means 70 Free Spirits and over 400 rowers from around the world rowed for Gaye. She would have been embarrassed to know so many people cared.

Thank you one and all for your respect for Gaye and the time out of your days to do this.

Re: October 2013 - celebrating the life of Gaye McOnie

Thank you Free Spirits who celebrated Gaye's life in such a meaningful way. It was both a sad row and a thoughtful day knowing that people from around the world were remembering my dear wife and our rowing colleague. I would also like to thank the 240+ people who rowed the CTC. Most of you had never...

Re: October CTC - 3,861 metres

My times are dropping as I get more in tune with the distance. I am not nearly as good as the rest of you but I am enjoying being in every boat as the month progresses. Today, I had to row while the buns were baking. They take 20 minutes and if you think the smell of fresh bread is an i...

Re: October CTC - 3,861 metres

Lesley,
If your card does not record your hard efforts, try removing your card and going to the memory recorder on the machine. This has happened a couple of times when I used a crappy machine at the gym. I was able to recover my times (as pathetic as they were). Good luck.

Today was day 11 of straight days rowing 3,861m. It is getting easier but I can feel the muscles in my shoulders discussing my health.  My shoulder seems okay and my back just protests. I guess this is called getting older, but not old.

Re: October CTC - 3,861 metres

If 100 people rowed 3,861m and entered it into the CTC we would likely instantly float 20 boats. =D> =D> =D> Of course if they rowed it now and again on the 19th we could definitely show the other Clubs that we mean business.

I think my time 20.06.04 will mean that although I may start in a good boat, I should be testing each boat as I am relegated over the month.

Re: October 2013 - celebrating the life of Gaye McOnie

I am finally getting back into the groove on the "Metal Mistress" 3,861 in 20.34.8 a pace 2.39.9/500 split.

My aim is to row this distance daily during October and hopefully improve my time somewhat. I encourage all Freespirits to row 3,861m on 19 October to remember Gaye.

Good luck

Re: October 2013 - celebrating the life of Gaye McOnie

I am extremely heartened that so many people are showing so much respect for Gaye. She loved to row and when Redshell asked she quickly joined Free Spirits Rowing and signed me up for good measure. She completed an impressive 18.8 million meters in a short time. Believe me when I say our household s...

Re: October 2013 - celebrating the life of Gaye McOnie

Thank you for the very kind thoughts of Gaye. I told Webberg that I will be cleared to start rowing again in September (dislocated shoulder) and my personal aim is to row the challenge every day in October.

Gaye would definitely have rowed the challenge herself.

Re: The Long Road Back From Illness/Injury

I had great ambitions to get in, and stay in the top 75 for this season :D . As some may see, I have not logged any metres yet  . I partially dislocated a shoulder in December. A few visits to the doctor and two months of Physio and I started rowing in March =D> =D> =D> . In late April the pain...

Re: Targets for both end of this season and for next

This year is not much fun. I had a partial shoulder separation in December, not related to rowing. :( :( After Physio and massages it was coming right and I was posting good metres. Then ....... I started to get an ache in the shoulder an hour after finishing a row. I think my year is done. :? :? I ...
