Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Hi, not been on for a while (1 row in last 5 years according to the log card). A combination of kids, 24/7 shift work and injury have led to no regular exercise since around 2014. After seeing Paul Buchanan posting a couple of weeks ago I felt inspired to to get back on. We will see how long it last...

Re: June CTC - Le Mont Blanc (4810m)
Decided on CTC today and choose a pace that would give me a time that I would be happy with at the end of the month. Happy with the result and gives me the chance to go for sub 16 min later in the month.

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k
Know that feeling Jason as that was me yesterday. I had to ease off 3k into 3x5k r20 and didn't do 3rd interval. Was really tired after 3rd night shift followed by just 4 hours sleep. 4x3k 3 rest r24 for me today. Started at steady pace after yesterday's failed session. Felt nice and comfortable so ...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k
Nice r22 session Jason. I'm only going to get a couple of goes at the CTC this month as I will be away for two weeks. It's good to know when to listen to your body so you can take appropriate recovery to be able to maximise training. Enforced rest day for me yesterday due to work. Today's session Pe...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k
Good to see you posting some sessions Eric. Some pretty azing sessions David, you will be keeping us heavyweights honest. Since my last post I've had another nasty cold and then a recurrence of a back injury that put me out for most of April. Have been getting back in shape during May and posting my...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k
Thanks David and Paul. All the tests I had at the doctor came back nevative, so sounds like this was just a nasty virus that developed into infected throat. Still not feeling 100% and need to finish the course of antibiotics. Yesterday I went for my first row (apart from CTC) for over 2 weeks. Decid...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k
12 days on from start of this virus and still feeling like crap. The only rowing I've done in that time was the one day CTC. Visited the doctor today, she thinks it is glandular fever and now waiting for test results to confirm. Really frustrating as January was a really good month training wise and...

One hole up normally for my size 15's and two up when I was still doing sprints on high drag and rating high.

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k
Nice fast sprints there David and a blistering fast stroke rate. I think I've only ever rated that high for all out 500m TT. I used to alter my drag for each session (up to 160 for sprints), but now keep it in the 125-130 range for everything.

Re: Carole McNally Memorial CTC
Always nice to see so many Free Spirits taking part in this CTC each year. Illness and night shifts made this more unpleasant and slower than it should have been for me. Think in current form sub 1:35 pace should have been straight forward on another day.

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
Paul, I was looking back through previous CTC threads and saw that you mentioned Anne Bourlioux persuading Margit Haarh Hansen to post some CTC efforts for Free Spirits (she posted 3 CTC scores last year). Just wondering if there was a way to give her a nudge as I think with our super fast new light...

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
Great distance David =D> . I was already thinking I need to up my game with the new women's 2k world record that is now faster than my 2k, now I'm getting overtaken by a lighweight in the same club.

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k
Hi David and welcome to Free spirits and this thread. You set a nice CTC and us heavyweights will have to up our game if we are going to keep up. My 2k and 5k times are very similar to yours (from 2012) and will be interesting to see how you progress. I am on the comeback trail at the moment and hop...

Re: Feb CTC - The Tribesports Twenty
Glad this is more up your street Jason, I look forward to seeing how much you can improve over the month. First go at this for me. Wasn't really sure how to pace this as my training lately has been longer low rate or faster intervals. Planned to maintain just under 1:45 pace for 15 min and then see ...

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k
Good to hear from you again Andrew. I think the most important thing when work or life get in the way of training is to take any opportunity you have and do the best session you can even when you can't really be bothered. Eric I know that feeling of rowing but not training, I'm sure this months CTC ...

Feeling a bit under the weather yesterday and today so just a gentle paddle for 15k and 16k. Hopefully feel bit better tomorrow for something a bit quicker and to finish of my 310k in January for Janurow.

Re: Training towards a 6:20 2k
Went off plan a bit today as I've been doing Janurow and have got a bit off target meters wise. This afternoon I covered just over 22k and this evening another 8k. Mostly 1:55-2:00 pace and approx 22 spm. This was by some way the furthest I've rowed in a day and put me a bit more on track for Janurow.
