Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?

Well it's been a long while since was last in the forums, and I suspect it will be another long while until the next visit :( Reason? I turned up at the gym yesterday to find that they had got in all new cardio kit - and replaced the knackered old Concept Model Cs with brand new shiny Life Fitness w...

Re: Heart Monitors

I used to have the Polar plug in for the PM2, and that was great and reliable (with un-encoded belt). Modern gyms tend to have a load of HRMs going, and I don't know if it would still work as well now. It won't - mine's a small gym (2 ancient model C/PM2); first time someone wearing an hrm took the...

Re: Gym Blues

Our gym has been undergoing renovation & extension all year. Yesterday the new bit was unveiled, with all the new equipment. Lots of shiny new, fearsome looking weights machines, new treadmills, cycles and x-trainers; and over in the corner the same old clapped out model Cs +PM2 displays. Disapp...

Re: Doctor Who!

Aaah soddit - just penned a brilliantly thought out Chardonnay fuelled critique of all the Doctors from Hartnell on; then clicked a link to "Blink" which opened in the same window. When I ht the "back" button it had vanished :( So here are some random thoughts: Tennant: excellent...

Re: Doctor Who!

That episode seems to have polarized opinions among the fan-base;and on balance I'm in the camp which thought it mostly rubbish :( An attempt at a high octane special effects bonanza degenerated into a over-long slushy, sickly sentimental ending that almost had me reaching for the bucket. That's wha...

Re: Doctor Who!

I do agree Mike - RTD seems especially fond of using the mind boggling consequences of time manipulation as a "get out of jail" card (though I'm nor sure poor old Dalek Caan would quite see it that way!) Yes there was a Sara Jane spin-off but I think it was a more kiddie-orientated thing N...

Re: Doctor Who!

I thought Tennant was contracted to do the "specials" next year (do they have to be consistent with the series??) so presumably he can't leave just yet? Just waiting for K9 to come along & save the day. I suspect there will be a "cop out"; Russell T Davies seems to go for the...

attempt #2 - 21:04.4 (24 sec improvement) Good to get ahead of a few people, even if only temporarily. Felt surprisingly relaxed, did not even test max hr at the end - 6-7bpm short at 175 8) Forgot all about the Blue Moon challenge   Off on hols next week so I think that's it from me Brian

Re: April CTC - 2500 m

Hard luck Brian Alistair I am so so sorry  I thought about your approach (not to go even pace) and decided to give it one last thrash. Realistically I was looking to sneak past Will Cole who was only 5sec ahead. But I notched up the df to 130 and dropped the rate from 27/28 to 25 and this is ...

Alistair - if you're out there this month is all yours I think

Boat X floated..., 8) 6:19.5 (1:57.9) puts me into Boat IX, seat 1. Probably shouldn't have tried this after a 5 day lay-off and only sporadic sessions for weeks before that. Struggled to hold 2:00 for the first 1,109m and considered giving up with 250 to go. On a good day should be able to ...
