Re: May CTC 5k
Hi everyone... I'm back! :D Not been doing much rowing recently - concentrating on broadening my exercise range, and I pulled a hamstring a couple of months ago and was out for 6 weeks, but I'm back on the erg now, fitness improving, and when I accidentally clicked on the CTC link and saw that it wa...

Re: BIRC 2008 Anybody going?
Hi everyone. Sorry to say I'm not going to be there tomorrow night or on Sunday after all. Just got back from my tournament in Greece a couple of hours ago, and am totally shattered, not to mention still suffering with sore throat and cold. Was probably always a bit much to expect to be able to comp...

Re: The run in to BIRC 2008
I'm not sure now that I'm even going to race...
Not been on the erg in about 10 days due to getting a stinking cold. Have got one chance to get back on tomorrow then off to Greece for a week, getting back 48 hours before BIRC.
At the moment, I think I'd be lucky to do a sub-7.

Re: Pre BIRC meal - Saturday night
Count me in for the meal. Have just entered for BIRC... really wasn't sure up till now, but decided what the hell! Have been doing a fair bit of training (as well as far too much work), though not all of it rowing by any means, over the last few months, but nothing in the way of speed work, so will ...

Re: New kit collation date: last orders by September 7th 2008
Added my order now - 2 more AiOs as my current (4 already!) ones are getting a bit long in the tooth, and I really don't find it comfortable to erg for long periods in anything else these days. Maxim FS custom All-in-one -- badocter(x1), MaxDev (x2) FS stock kit bag -- badocter(x1) FS stock children...

Re: PM from MB
Not so easy Graham... not impossible either however. There's really nothing publically accessible that can reliably be used to tie the real names (from the MB) to the forum IDs, so this is probably a non-starter unless JL wants to add a table to his FS database to store the mapping. However, even if...

Re: 72 hour team relay on 24th: sign up on the link above
Bit of a struggle for me today... arms were very sore after doing weights for the first time in ages on Thursday evening. Set off looking for 15600m. On target for the first half but really struggling after that. Also might have handled down if it wasn't for the challenge. Finished with 15382m - 780...

Re: what training have free spirits been doing today?
Back on the erg this evening after Saturday's 100k. Shoulders, back and triceps (and backside!) had been feeling a bit sore on Sunday and yesterday, but felt totally recovered by today. Not quite true though, as I discovered when I started rowing: right hip feeling a little painful under tension, bu...

Re: Another 100k row - for Cancer Research
Absolutely amazing that you finished within a second of Mikkel on a 7+ hour row not knowing what his time was. Great performance. So did you end up using the c-breeze on it ? :fswink: I know... couldn't have been planned, even if I'd know what time I was doing, which I didn't (disadvantage ...

Roughly halfway through my 100K today I passed 5MM lifetime (recorded, at any rate), almost all done since October 2006.

Re: Another 100k row - for Cancer Research
Absolutely brilliant Max. Now take three months off to recover. I hope you raise loads of money for Cancer Research. Paul V Thanks for the donation Paul! That suggestion wouldn't happen to be because the 100k has just pushed me past you on the Metre Board would it? Don't worry... c...

And the splits (done as 10K, or in two halves if there was an intermediate distance to aim at): 10K 41:17.3 (no rest) 20K 42:20.5 30K 42:50.4 40K 42:46.0 50K 44:44.9 (rests getting longer!) 60K 44:50.3 70K 46:06.6 80K 48:57.3 (two rests!) 90K 48:33.1 (in real pain) 100K 45:53.9 FM: 2:58:13.7 (way to...

Re: Another 100k row - for Cancer Research
Ouch ouch ouch! Went off too fast (I never learn) and was really hurting in the 2nd half. Kept it together(ish) though, and finished in 7:28:20.3. Mikkel - for some reason, I had remembered your time as 7:19:something, rather than 7:28:19, so after about 60km I'd given up on beating you. Now I find ...

Re: Please vote: team relay
I also voted 24th. Am going home the previous weekend, so not best for me (could do a Thursday evening or Sat daytime session, but nothing else). If I do want to do a 30min SB attempt, I also think I need as long as possible after the 100K.

Re: Another 100k row - for Cancer Research
Thanks for all the support everyone!
Beginning to feel the dread building now... having done it before, I know how much it hurts! Hopefully I'm better prepared than I was last time though.
Going to start a bit earlier than originally planned - probably 9:30am.

Re: Another 100k row - for Cancer Research
My final training session before the big day this evening... just 11K, though rather faster than the gentle 10K I intended to do (5K @ 1:53, 5K @ 1:54, 1K @ 1:58 cool down).
Feeling in good shape, but I definitely need to go off at a sensible slow pace on Saturday, or I'll regret it later on.

Re: Relay revisted mach 2
I voted for 72 hours as well. It's a decent number, allows us to do 1MM+, and it gives us a challenging target as we've done it before! Depending when it is (at least a few weeks after my 100K hopefully!!), I'd be happy to take part and, depending how busy I am at work etc., do at least 2-3 hours to...

Re: Another 100k row - for Cancer Research
Mikkel - 32 now - my signature is a bit out of date  I'd really like to break 7 hours on this some day, but given that I was aiming for 8 hours first time out and missed it by a whole 24 minutes, I know just how hard it is. Just have to see how I feel on the day. Thanks for the offer, Gooner! ...

Re: Summer Solstice Row 2008
Horrible, horrible, horrible. :x Normally I'd be coasting through an HM in 1:23 or so. Today wasn't normal... if it had been anything other than the Summer Solstice row I'd have handled down before 10K. At home this weekend, so rowing in the garage for the first time in a while. Got back late last n...

Another 100k row - for Cancer Research
Following on from Neil and David's highly successful 100k row, I have finally gotten around to organizing my own 100k charity effort, in aid of Cancer Research UK. This will take place in just a couple of weeks time, on Saturday 5th July, at Royston Leisure Centre, Hertfordshire. I'm hoping to compl...

Re: 100k - Data stream
With regard to pacing and splits, I remember reading an Eddie Fletcher artice on marathon training that, based on four example rowers, drew conclusions about a relationship between 2K and marathon times based on percentages of power input rather than split differences. For properly prepared and comm...

Re: The Apprentice
Yes - this year's candidates are a fairly pathetic lot compared to last year and the year before. I agree with some of your comments, but I'd actually pick Claire and Alex as my final two at the moment, with probably Lee and Helene to make it into the last four with them. While Lucinda seemed to do ...

Model C for sale
Hi all, First off, for those that might be wondering, I've not died / given up erging... just been away for a several weeks playing in chess tournaments and then recovering from a nasty cold (which I haven't quite shaken off, though I did try and do an erg session the other day for the first time in...
