The club started in 2006 when some disgruntled rowers left another on-line group because it had too many rules. The group decided to contact people on the Concept 2 rankings to see if they would be interested in taking part in a few challenges. The emails flying around soon got out of hand and in late 2006 the Free Spirits forum began.

We celebrate our birthday each year on 16th May.
