Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships 2017

Post by plummy »

There has been very little activity from the FS team this year regarding taking part in races (at least advertised anyway). I'm 80% likely to be going to the Welsh Championships on Saturday, November 25th this year and I wondered if anyone else was considering going?

You‘re right Dave, there hasn‘t been much racing activity this season from FS (which includes me) and if I‘m not mistaken you already went to the Devon championships.

It‘s a bit far to travel for me :D but if you‘re going I‘m wishing you the best of luck :fswink:

For those interested this is the WIRC website (W meaning Welsh, not World :D ):

Since it's relatively close to home, I may attend for cheering purposes. Never attended anything like, so would treat as a toe dipping/preparation exercise for when I'm reading to pop head above parapet.

Paid the fee and booked the hotel - so, barring injury/illness it looks like I'm going!!

Best of luck plummy. Delighted to hear that someone will be carrying the flag for Free Spirits.

Thanks Paul - after my suspicions that I was "coming down with something" yesterday I've woken up after a fitful night's sleep feeling like I've been hit by a bus - so no training today, just resting up. I suppose it's better to have it now than in 3 weeks time!

Good luck on Saturday David - hope that you are feeling 100% now and ready for the off?

Which races are you competing in - I'm assuming that race 8 will be one of them?

Best of luck for your race today Dave! You should be done by now and we all wonder what your result was and if you're happy with it.

I read on FB that Guy Blackburn did it it again and won the 40-49 mlwt in 6:39.7!
Congratulations, that's a superb time, most probably even a PB! =D>

I tried to post from my phone but it didn't work apparently.
I tied the trip to Cardiff with some work appointments and it meant sacrificing my last training session but I figured my legs might appreciate the extra rest. That was all going well but I woke up this morning and found I had the pre-migraine shimmery aura in my right eye which means within an hour or so the headache will start. I took some tablets and was mostly OK bar the noise in the hall (commentary and music) which was deafening. Warm up was ok-ish but I was concerned about the race so treated it as an exploration most of the way - splits:
1:51.9 - standing start and just wanted to get 500 ticked off
1:50.8 - still just counting down but no dramas
1:50.7 - a bit of a blur really
1:46.9 - sprinted the last 170ish.

7:20.3 for a 6.5s season's best. OK - given the circumstances

EDIT - 13 Nonathlon points so I got something for my SB efforts this time around :D :D

Well done plummy. Nasty surprise when you woke up, but I'm glad you managed to forestall a full on attack. All things considered, a great performance and proof that your training is going well.

Very nice result Dave, medal or not, especially given the circumstances! It's always satisfying to SB in a race!

Serious kudos Mr. Plumb. 6.5 sec is amazing considering the migraine.

Great result Plummy - especially as you'd mentioned the early signs of a migraine. I can't imagine it's a helpful environment if you feel a migraine coming on but a 6.5s seasons best is a cracking result. Nice final 500 drive for the line too, very well raced. Great to catch up in person again too.

As mentioned above, my time was indeed a PB and the first time I've broken 6:40 which I'm really pleased about.

A good Free Spirits showing all round !
