Well, I work all the time. So never interrupt me. Not if there's a fire. Not even if you hear the sound of a thud coming from my home and a week later, there's a smell that can only be a decaying human body and you have to put a hanky up to your nose because the smell is so bad, you think you're gonna faint. Even then don't come knocking.

Thanks Ian. I didn't remember the dialogue, but it sounded like the kind of thing the character played by Nicholson would say.

How about this one?

It's like it brings your innermost desires to life. If deep down you're a little repressed, and a hopeless romantic, you become some kind of love-crazy wild man.

Time for another bit of dialogue.

A: He's going to the charity ball tonight. He's gonna do something terrible.
B: Like what, the Lambada?

It is a comedy, but not The Nutty Professor.

Has it really been that long?

Dennis Quaid stars, though you'll hear Josh Gad more often.

I think you may have stumped us. From your most recent post, it sounds as if it's an animated film and as I have no children (or grandchildren) of a relevant age, I have absolutely no chance of getting it. The only animated film I've seen since the Shrek films is Frozen and that's only because it was on TV one day when I was erging.

A Dog's Purpose - not animated (the other half was about as insistent on seeing it as she has been about anything before).

Anyway, replacement (which may or may not be dead simple if answered today  )

A: Excuse me, where is everybody going?
B: To Gobbler's Knob. It's [the name of the film].
A: It's still just once a year, isn't it?

I looked up the meaning of the word dingus and one of the definitions ( apologies if this is seen as cheating  [-X ) put this idea into my head. Could it be a Jerry Lewis film or one of the same sort of genre ... perhaps the Marx brothers?

No, it's not cheating, and, no, not my other (often) genre.
I know we have used this actor before, but, I do not believe, in this film.

Another quote:

"We didn't exactly believe your story, Miss Wonderly. We believed your 200 dollars. I mean, you paid us more than if you had been telling us the truth, and enough more to make it all right."

A very famous 1941 movie, starring a number of very famous actors, who also appeared together the next year in a film that has been quoted on this thread.

Even though the director also gets credit for the screenplay, I have read the book the film is "based on", and it reads almost word for word like the film. This fact may not help anyone identify the film, but I thought it interesting!
