Re: Name that tune
When Paul first posted the lyrics, I thought "Comfortably Numb" but did not post anything. Now after the various clues, I do not have anything else to add.

OK then, despite 'Delicate sound of thunder' revolving around my brain I have finally come up with 'Learning to fly'.
I wound not have got it without the clues!

Re: Name that tune
Thank you Dave.
Steve, although the lyric was very familiar, it took me about twenty minutes to finally remember which tune it came from. Probably had something to do with it being the first song on my iPod rowing playlist which I had been listening to yesterday morning.
According to today's paper, Ginger Baker is 78 today and Robert Plant will be 69 tomorrow.
See how you all get on with this one:
Threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?

Re: Name that tune
I immediately heard the song in my head though I thought it said something like "do the bump and grind". Now listening to Like A Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan, I hear it is actually "threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?"
Anyway, thank you for posting this after I woke up.
And, I will now not be so worried when I choose a Dylan song in the future!

Re: Name that tune
Peter, this has to qualify you as a contestant in our ' Mondegreen of The Month ' competition.
As an impressionable and naive teenager, I spent a fair amount of my time trying to decipher a fair amount of Bob Dylan's lyrics. It wasn't until years later that I read somewhere that he couldn't decipher a fair amount of them either ... Which leads me to Jill's ' Thought For Today ' :
If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't know anything.
Over to you Peter ... when you have woken up that is.

Re: Name that tune
Woke up, sailed at the Sailing Club, ate a few meals.
And changed the song I was thinking about after Jill's "Thought For Today'

Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then
Ann could not stop laughing at this and my interpretation , so I played her the song and she said "bump and grind".

Love the tie-in...
I was hearing Bryan Adams in my head for the first 10 minutes; then, an epiphany...
Against the Wind - Bob Seger (?)
On a side note; going to see him live here in just a couple of weeks!

Correct Ron.

Re: Name that tune
Okay, after checking, it appears that this song never charted - like anywhere... lol. I guess it was only popular with fans. As such, I'm going to go ahead and retract it and try again. It was "Her Strut" - also by Bob Seger and the Silver(er) Bullet Band.
Let's try this one:
I picked you out, I shook you up and turned you around
