Re: Name that tune
I remember songs from the 1960s a lot better than more recent songs. With that in mind:
And I'll meet you at the station
You can be there by four-thirty
'Cause I've made your reservation
And I'll meet you at the station
You can be there by four-thirty
'Cause I've made your reservation

Re: Name that tune
Thank you Paul. I also know older songs much better than any of the newer "stuff".
This one is not from all the way back to the 1960s though.
"Don't know when I've been so blue
Don't know what's come over you"
There is a bit of trivia related to why I chose this one now, but I will save that for another clue, if needed, or for when it is identified. Extra credit for supplying the trivia with the song title!

funny, that song came to my mind. But still not sure if it's correct, fingers crossed.
Maybe Crystal Gayle caught a train somewhere once?

Re: Name that tune
I also recognised the song straight away. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out the trivia. Is it some connection between Crystal Gayle and the Monkees? Or some connection with Clarksville?

Re: Name that tune
Plummy is correct.
Sorry I was not clear about the trivia. It was not related to the previous song.
Yesterday, as I heard on the radio, (on a classical station, no less), was Crystal Gayle's birthday.

I don't remember those specific lyrics, but the rhythm sounds like Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen.

Re: Name that tune
Afraid not, Paul.
Earlier than that - the original is by a folk group and an excellent cover was done by an Irish band with the initials FM.
Enough clues for now.

Re: Name that tune
No takers for this one then - I will post something a bit "easier" and topical then.
It was "John the Gun" by Fairport Convention - the Irish band Fatima Mansions did a very good cover.
Here's a new one :
"Another head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken".

Re: Name that tune
Oh dear - I thought this one would be more topical - it is "Zombie" by the Cranberries - topical with Dolores o'Riordan passing away last week.
I'll try one last time -
"Nobody is going to go to school today,
She's going to make them stay at home"

Drat, I knew that one. I actually went to see the Boomtown Rats in a post race meeting concert at Leopardstown racecourse in August 2016.

Re: Name that tune
Thanks Paul G - wouldn't have got the Zombie one from anything but lines from the chorus.
Sorry Paul V - but here's another chance! This one is pretty recent:
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do

Correct Jill, that was quick
It was a music question in last week's pub quiz - I'm afraid we didn't know it at the time
Your turn!

Thank you Jan and apologies for another instance of my creeping brain rot.
After I had gone to bed last night, I remembered that I'd already put up Happy, ( last October ). I went to edit my post this morning but you had already replied.
Please feel free to have another go.

Jill, I must admit I forgot to search the forum for previous occurrences
It's very generous of you to let me have another go
This one is from the same pub quiz (a hint: another recent Christmas number 2 in the UK):
Maybe I'm foolish
Maybe I'm blind
Thinking I can see through this
And see what's behind
It's very generous of you to let me have another go
