Re: Name that tune
Today is American Thanksgiving Day.
Those of you in the US already knew that. Those elsewhere may or may not have realized it.
All of this is lead up to my choice of:
had a another thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat
Someone please tell me it was easy, or else we may have another discussion of Dutch music.

Re: Name that tune
More is obviously needed. This maybe limited to the US, but we have US players here, and they probably heard this song played (perhaps multiple times) on the radio on Thursday. (Ron or Barbara, or anyone else, please help me out! )
The singer/composer is the son of (another well-known US) folk writer/composer.
And, if that is not enough, here are more lyrics:
I turned over the piece of paper, and there, there on the other side, in the middle of the other side, away from everything else on the other side, in parentheses, capital letters, quotated, read the following words:
("KID, HAVE YOU REHABILITATED YOURSELF?")
...
I mean, I'm sittin' here on the Group W bench 'cause you want to know if I'm moral enough to join the Army—burn women, kids, houses and villages—after bein' a litterbug.

Re: Name that tune
LoL, okay, since you called me for the bail money....
I'm going with a not-so-wild guess of:
Alice's Restaurant - Arlo Guthrie
I'm not 100% sure as I don't think I've ever heard it all the way through, but I know it's kinda weird and also that it gets played every year on the local station on Thanksgiving Day. 9am and 12pm this year... I caught the last 1:30 of it...

Thanks Ron.
And this time I will not skip bail.
Next year, try to listen to the whole song!
ps: You are are just a kid, but I remember going to Whitehall.

Re: Name that tune
Whitehall Street was the location for draft board pre-induction physical exams. Both Arlo and I went through there.
I immediately knew your song, and know that "facts is" rhymes with "Tax-is", er, "Texas". I am not going to name it since I will be away and do not want to leave one of my "easy ones " hanging.

Uh-oh - I really thought this one was a giveaway...
1976 was the year. Here are a few more lyrics:
Billy Mack is a detective down in Texas.
You know he knows just exactly what the facts is.
He ain't gonna let those two escape justice

Re: Name that tune
As far as I recall, the only songs by the Steve Miller Band that were hits on this side of the Atlantic were The Joker and Abracadabra.

Paul not Jungle Love?! Oh my.
Ron... Yes it rocked our world, I even saw them perform in northern California. Just getting forgetful
Onward...
It can't be wrong, when it feels so right.

Re: Name that tune
This one is an old classic. Fun fact, it topped the US billboard charts for 10 weeks in 1977 and was knocked of by the BeeGees "How Deep Is Your Love"
So many nights...
Lots of emotional crescendo-ing and later
It can't be wrong
When it feels so right

Re: Name that tune
Barbara, despite your best efforts ( love the idea of the soaring or is it sawing violins? ) I’m reduced to guessing.
At the risk of questioning your questionable musical tastes, is it something by Demos Roussos?
I think I know the answer already.

Re: Name that tune
Hi Jill - not recognizing that name, I looked it up... briefly
Good guess but no
Next clue. Jack, bless his heart, was subjected to me singing the chorus of this song while we put up Christmas lights How he puts up with his ridiculous wife, will remain a mystery...
So many nights I'd sit by my window
Waiting for someone to sing me his song

Indeed it is - I only know of the version by Wreckless Eric, which I think is the original.

I'll have to look that one up - I've grown fonder and fonder of the new version and thought I'd heard it was a remake.
