Re: Name that tune
Jill, speaking of grey cells, we are off the west coast of Scotland on a cruise, and thus I cannot remember the inspiration for my song choice. Although I knew it was Lenny's 100th, I think it was more something I saw outside the window at home.

Re: Name that tune
Thank you Peter.
Enjoy your cruise around and about another beautiful area of our little island. I forget so many times that I am an islander - after each fresh realisation, I am always taken by surprise.
Let's see how we go with this:
There's one more kid who will never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool

Another clue or two.
There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shuffling' their feet
People sleeping' in their shoes
Very well know Canadian.

Re: Name that tune
Hi Jill. Even before your last clue, I thought it was Neil Young. The title is a bit tougher. Is it "Living In The Free World"?

Re: Name that tune
Right on the button Peter.
The song was Richard's suggestion - I was scrolling through my playlist and he said, " That will be a good one to put up, everyone knows it and there's a fair chance that Peter ( meaning you ) will as well.
When I complained to Richard on Tuesday evening, that so far, no one had come up with an answer, he said, " That's extraordinary. "
You have now saved him from being on the receiving end of one of my Paddington Bear Hard Stares.
Over to you.

Re: Name that tune
LoL, Jill! As soon as I saw the original post, I could hear the singer singing the lyrics in my head, but couldn't connect the dots at the time. Your additional clue may have helped, but Peter had already seized the moment. Brain cells are getting slower....

Re: Name that tune
In addition to slow brain cells, for some reason I could not get a cell phone network in the Faroe Islands. So I had to burn a few internet minutes on board.

Re: Name that tune
Mmmm ... Peter, all morning I have been singing in my head:
I have often walked down this street before
But the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before
Although a slight difference in the wording, ( no capital letter so perhaps not the beginning of the line ) is it On The Street Where You Live?
Or have you set a clever trap? Which I have fallen into?

You are correct Jill.
I am not up to traps, clever or not.

Ron and Peter, I obviously have more faith in your little grey cells than you do.
More GMG ( gentle mental gymnastics ) might help ...
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of an automobile
You may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife

Don't seem to be any takers - It is "Red Army Blues" by the Waterboys.

Re: Name that tune
Is it "Respect", by a lady who just went into hospice?
I also knew the previous one, but woke up too late.

Indeed it is Peter, the news story prompted me.
(Hope she recovers) Edit - just heard she passed away. Sad loss to music.

Re: Name that tune
Thanks Wolfie,
I saw the headline Tuesday at the gym (I finally got back there! ). Before I saw your edit, I was going to note that hospice (in the US, perhaps palliative care in the UK?) is not something you recover from. Yes, sad news.
Moving on:
"Long-haired freaky people need not apply"
