Well done to our FM virgins - great work.

I've graduated down to about one a year now as they are seriously tough. That said I try and get them under 3:10 (total time, not split :-) )

My stamina is in the tank at the moment and I'm bailing on 3 out of 4 attempts (couldn't even do a 6k at <2:00 yesterday).

Thank you Richard!
I have to say that it did not feel too tough. Probably as I had decided to do it, as you say, and because after each short break I had pace boats to chase. First one was easy and the last was tough and kept me calculating all the time whether I could catch it. Kept my mind busy. Also used some music in the end.

Rowing takes time, yes, but I have to find it to keep fit in mind and body.

I am always surprised to see that people that have very busy jobs, seem to have very little "spare" time even after retiring. Strange ;-)

Hope you will have the FM experience one day. Feels great!
As I have no chance in catching you on the Meterboard anyway :-) :-)

But for a marathon, yep I'd take the advice of the experts! !
Thanks Barbara!

I stopped watching movies as the screen is to the right of the Erg and my medics advices against constantly looking to the side while rowing.

The link to the conversion is below, and as the global health challenge is also about motivating oneself I judged it is fair enough to use it ;-) The numbers I got by erging with the step counter (as advised) were as you experienced too low :-(

They differentiate between OTW and Erg.

Congrats Ian!!!
Must be tough doing it at the gym as well, unless the views and action around are distracting (my PB on the 10k is from such a setting). But as others have reported here one might get evil looks for blocking the Erg for more than 30-60 minutes, so not to mention 3h20m :-) :-)

It was quite useful having reference points for 30 minutes every now and again. I don't intend on doing this again at the gym though

I've done practically nomrowing this season because of my back problems. It wasn't bothering me too much today, so I decided to do 30 minutes on the erg, just to earn some nonathlon points. My sole objective was to finish, but I was hoping not to be as slow as I feared I might be (I.e. less than 7k).

It was harder than I thought and I struggled to keep the pace under 2:12 per 500m, although I did improve slightly in the second half to finish in 6947m @ 2:09.5 pace. My slowest 30 minutes in several years, but just glad to get it done without HDing. The key thing now is to see how my back is tomorrow. Ideally, I'd like to be able to do the Summer Solstice challenge next week, even if I have to break it up into several chunks on the day. [-o<

My list of excuses for last nights row is extensive (heat, long day, Emmerdale being on the gym TV etc.).

I attempted the 60 minute piece for the nonathon, but by 30 minutes I was convincing myself that 8km was enough (as that was due to be my Pete Plan piece on the waterrower the next day). Following that mental deal, I dragged myself to about 11km and decided enough was enough.

Made up a real mish-mash for some variety tonight:

10 minute warm up (about 2.3k) then did 8 x 500m 3r at 22,24,26,28,28,26,24,22 spm. Paces started at 2:03 got as low as 1:51.4 (for the second 28) and back to 1:59.7 for the last rep.

Then did a 5000m which felt surprisingly good for 3.5km (then started to hurt) but managed 20:02.2 which I'd be happy with without the 8 x 500m

Then did a proper cool down for another 1000.

Hungry and sleepy now :-)

I hope to be posting regularly in this thread for a while. 8-[

My elbow is 100% healed; my back seems to be 100% healed; and I hope my neck is 100% healed.

My current plan (which will probably change tomorrow) is to complete 6 weeks of UT2 general rowing (heart-rate capped at 136), followed by 6 weeks of general UT1 rowing (heart-rate capped at 145) to build a base without injuring anything else!

Then we'll see.

Today:

8 min wu
2x10', r2', R20, AHR 127, MHR 136 at a very slow 2:25 pace.
6 min cd

Cheers, :P

In spite of promises to myself, completed another FM this morning (arrived sufficiently early to the gym to avoid any judging eyes).

Couldn't get comfortable this time, and I read my film choices ('Lady in a van' and 'What we did on our holiday') were not exactly high energy

A whisper over 3hr 12 was over my target to improve my nonathon score and move up rankings, but I'm pleased nonetheless to have finished as after less than 40 minutes the mind game started.

That's a long time to be playing mind games. Well done on seeing it through! =D>

Been struggling to post here, the main reason being not knowing what my (erging) status is...

Erging wise I have done my ctc attempts - typically twice each month, and not so much more. I like much more doing cycling these days - and think I will continue to do so. Big progress as I have managed to do a couple of +60km rides without any problems.

In August I have tried a little more erging, 5k on the 7th, 6k on the 12th and a 10k yesterday. Think my plan is to get scores in most of the Nonathlon distances this season. And as ctc next month is 6k, there will be more indications, so will be exciting to see what that will bring...

Well it's been a long while since was last in the forums, and I suspect it will be another long while until the next visit :(
Reason? I turned up at the gym yesterday to find that they had got in all new cardio kit - and replaced the knackered old Concept Model Cs with brand new shiny Life Fitness water resistance rowers. Needless to say I have politely enquired as to my membership cancellation options

Have you thought about getting your own C2? Given you safe money quitting the gym it should quickly pay off.

Have you considered buying a larger house so you would have space?

So Free Spirits haven't apparently been doing any training for the last month - I don't believe that for a minute.

I am getting back into it again (again), but still favoring a wrist ache so going quite slow so todays was

6 x 3517m w35s rest (just enough to towel down, drink, jiggle about, and get ready!) - or in other words, a HM on an installment plan - total end to end time 1:47:55 (2:32.4'/500m) max HR 126
Mark, 52, 1.90m, was 125kg (on 12/1/2015), now 110kg having been briefly at 99kg in 2016
Used to be this good (2007/8 Seasons)

I’m new to this board, so thanks for the add!
Did the Fall Challenge at 18-20 sr, easy splits because I was still on the water 7/wk plus my regular lifting. Took a week off the erg at the end and a little over a week ago decided that maybe use that 200k base as a springboard to trying a local February 2k Race to keep me motivated through the winter. I’m a 55 LW F and will have been rowing 3 years this Dec, so I don’t have any 2k’s or benchmarks to go off of. Ran the 2k Interactive Program on your UK C2 website for 15 weeks and am in week two. Today was 48’ UT2/sr 18-20. Did 5’ Warmup/cooldown. Split 2:16.5 (bottom end of my target), HR around 150, SR 20. A good piece today. I think being on the erg as well as the water is going to really help my otw rowing. I’m feeling/learning a lot on the erg.
Thanks again for the add!
