September ctc - 5k, standing start, unrestricted
Hi everybody,
team Fitness Matters has decided on the September ctc:
"Fitness Matters are pleased to announce September's CTC Challenge: "Virtually Devon".
In keeping with the annual Devon Indoor Rowing Championships in September (virtual race this year 26/27th) the CTC for September 2020 will be 5000m. It's a simple, unrestricted 5K."
In terms of pacing I'd recommend current 5k pace

Thereโs no need for that. Just wait for Wolfieโs first go, then go a tad quicker
Glad to be of service

Got an early one in. Had been 3.5 mnths since I did one.
Struggled mentally in the 2500 to 3500 section, nearly gave up but very pleased with the result.

Well done on the PB Crushy an 18:xx looks so much better than a 19:xx don't you think? Jo my eldest had a go at the ctc this morning only her 3rd sit on the erg and she put out a 34:54.8 neg split 5k oh to be that age again.

Not sure that my legs agree on the 18/19 thing. They seem to be telling me that 19:XX was just fine and I should have left it at that.
Congrats to Jo. Not sure I'd have liked to do a 5k that early in my erging career. Neg split is a nice touch. [ Or does that mean she needs to go a bit harder to start with ]

Re: September ctc - 5k, standing start, unrestricted
Had my usual early in the month stab and managed 20:20.2 - which annoyingly was only 0.7s slower than my SB. If I hadn't backed off 3 times there were a couple of Nonathlon points available possibly...grrr

Well done Dave, being 0.7s off your SB is quite good start into this ctc. There's more to come I think...

Seasons best, only just thou. A neg split 24:44.5 plenty more in the tank but it's very early days yet so trying hard to keep it under control

Re: September ctc - 5k, standing start, unrestricted
My interval 5ks were today
18:53.1 @ 1:53.3 was the quickest
So that's a marker for Wolfie plan is to try another one at the end of the month
Good luck everyone

Well done everyone for the early entries
Well, back on a concept 2 for the first time in five months and boy am I rusty! I have done quite a lot of running over lockdown and shed a bit of extra weight to get below 75kg so I guess this is a lwt pb!
I feel pretty fit but my erg specific muscles will need a bit of time to build back up. Did this as a rate ladder and will probably just mess about with various 5ks this month

Actually, would be a good target if I'd not put my back out on Tuesday!!
No rowing (or golfing) for me for a while, but I'm hopeful of something by the end of the month.
Felton, great to see you back on the erg

Nice to see you back Felton, and nice negative splits. Getting below 75kg is a big reduction tooCaratacus wrote: โThu Sep 03, 2020 2:20 pm Well done everyone for the early entries

Thanks Dave, you gave me the motivation to keep going and get into boat 1 for the second month in a row. See how long it lasts this time
I actually thought that my 20:17.4 was faster than last year's SB - until I checked and it turned out that that was 20:17.2

Re: September ctc - 5k, standing start, unrestricted
As it's a straight 5k I will probably have another couple of goes at this one but 20:20.2 felt pretty ragged edge to me - (ah,for the days when I could knock out 3 x sub 20 minute ones back to back... )jhaveman wrote: โFri Sep 04, 2020 8:46 pmThanks Dave, you gave me the motivation to keep going and get into boat 1 for the second month in a row. Re: September ctc - 5k, standing start, unrestricted
Great to see so many early efforts. We already have two boats afloat.
I put in a truly awful 21.55.1 today with a UT2 HR cap because I am determined to make a gently reentry to erging after weeks away. Hopefully I can keep things going through the month and put in a better time. For now I have an undeserved and short-lived seat in Boat II.

Re: September ctc - 5k, standing start, unrestricted
Long time since I looked at CTC (ten years?)
I'm doing pieces designed to get me to a full marathon in a few months. Hence I'm churning along at a painful 2:23 ish pace.
If we need to fill another boat I'll happily contribute but ask forgiveness.

Nice rowing going on! Will give this a go but more towards the end of the month. Still need some more time in the saddle and get some metres under my belt. Feeling better on the rower now. Long way from my best but I had a long time off.
