Comeback again

Post by badocter »

Back on the rower again after a long while off...

Was doing karate through 2014-2016, but a few injuries and my kid's losing interest lead to me dropping it. Big mistake was not picking up some physical activity to replace it and playing way too much star wars galaxy of heroes on my phone for a year(such a waste...) so my weight has crept back up to 228# and my fitness level is now rubbish. I deleted all my mobile games a couple months ago and regret not doing so sooner...they are designed to be addictive and are a ridiculous time suck.

I am back again to get my health back in order. 5k last night at 2:15 pace and it felt hard...

Welcome back Bill. I posted last night but it seems to have disappeared?? 5k at 2:15 isn't too shabby after such a long lay off.

Like the new Avatar too.

Welcome back. You pre-date me by quite a few years.

I know what you mean about the phone games. I once read a great book bemoaning the fact that designers of games could do such much more if they made other activities as addictive as they make pointless games. I've been addicted to a few myself over the years. I manage to wean myself off eventually.

I look forward to hearing about your comeback and improvements as you reengage with the good old erg

Hi Bill, good to see you back on the erg on on the forum again! I still remember our Boston adventure back in 2010 where we both rowed our 2k PBs. Those times are most probably gone, but I wish you success on the road back to old fitness nevertheless :fswink:

Hi Bill:
I am in a similar position. Just fell of the erg wagon. Listless tiny seasons for some years. Knee pain/bad swelling of one knee —> loose bodies were removed via a scope late this winter. Then I signed up for a thing called WLC - “Whole life challenge” where many aspects of life get challenged including food and exercise. And this brought me back to the erg! Glacial pace for the first rows here too - but hey here we go! No blisters, and slowly getting back into faster sessions.
Good to be back.

Hi Bill

Nice to see you back in harness. I remember you telling me at some stage that you were constantly being asked by lightweights where the weigh in was taking place. That's probably not as much of an issue for you now as it was back then, but hopefully it will become so again at some stage in the not to distant future.

Hi Iain!
I do remember some of your taunting in a race up the meter board a few years ago... - will you be back on the board as well?
