Yep - that's where I saw the chink in your armour Ian - and took my chance

Now my strategy is in the open I'm sure you'll better my time on your next attempt. Why not take a day or two off completely so you are well rested (he says with an eye on the metreboard  )

I think your time is very, very safe this month. As for the metreboard, my FM time needs attention this weekend......

Well done everyone!

Hello, sorry for a late respond...managed to do it on Monday in the lunch break...the last 300m of the 1250m were really painfull...and the last 500m rep also...but i am really happy with the result- because the last 500m were quicker than the first one...after some hours i noticed beeing beaten just one place by a woman of sub7 (not Elena- that would be ok) but this happy coincidence motivates me perhaps to do it one more time... 8)

I have just got back from a 10 day cruise with a filthy cold, having only just got over a chest infection so I think you may be safe!

Unfortunately Norwegian Cruise Line did not have an indoor rower in the gym so no rowing for almost 2 weeks-I did do 5 Treadmill sessions before coming down with the cold which on rough seas was somewhat interesting!

500m / 1:48
1250m / 1:49
500m / 1:44

which would have resulted in a time of 8:04.5  :fswink:

Well, this is how it went:

I am not a good sprinter so I had to focus on the middle part. To my big surprise the 1250m went much better than planned and with the final 500m coming up I sensed a chance of dipping under 8 minutes. Which I did :D

Well that was painful, mentally as well physically! I'd honed my planned time based on Felton's / Caratacus's time and our respective times last month (thank you it should have made it so much easier). The plan was 500m 1.38 / 1250m 1.42 / 500m 1.37 for a total of 7.30.0 or a shade under.

I'm rather embarrassed to report I went out a tad fast in the first 500m and didn't slow down even when I realised I should!!! Stupid or what, anyway I missed my target by just 0.1 of a second and was running on empty by the end.

500m 1.35.3 1.35.3
1250m 4.17.5 1.43.0
500m 1.37.3 1.37.3
2250m 7.30.1 1.40.0

After a couple of days without rowing becaue of feeling a bit feverish I felt today strong enough to give it another go. My 1250m was about 6 seconds faster now, which explains most of the almost 8 seconds I'm overall faster then my previous attempt.

I'm slowly getting back into the swing of these ctc's (unlike the stalwart members here who have consistently been putting in superb efforts).

I was pleased to be kicked out of a temporary seat last month by Morten and impressed with Erik's significant improvement (in his signature style of repetitive efforts). So there'll probably be a repeat of play this month (I hope) with further challenges from haaico, Erik and Morten. I'm not sure whether I'll get another chance at this, but I might be tempted if I'm booted out of the seat again!

I've trained hard for the last 7 days, so really it was a rest day forecast today... so I thought the c2c was short [-o<

7:20.4 2250m 1:37.8 33

1:34.6 500m 1:34.6 32 163 (rest HR 141)
4:10.7 1250m 1:40.2 33 171 (rest HR 140)
1:35.1 500m 1:35.1 35 171

No surprises the second interval is the toughest. Target pace was 1:38 - 1:39, but I soon saw 1:40-1:42 creeping in [-X
I'd based the target pace for the 500m on having been recently around 1:33 for 8*1'/1'r
Perhaps the next go, I'll go a little easier on the first rep, and set a harder score on the second... or just go with the same plan but with MTFU

Good luck to those attempting in the last few days of the month 8)

It's great to follow everybody's progress on the CTC, well done to all who have completed it (and with some very impressive times)!
This type of CTC is not really my favourite, because I've been neglecting the short distance / high stroke rate side of things, and am getting out of breath more quickly than I would like to. Something to work on I guess ...

JonT kindly provided a target to aim at, however I wasn't very confident because he's been consistently quicker than me in the last few CTCs. However once I got going after my warmup, things went better than hoped for:
Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 8:27.7 2,250m 1:52.8 244 1138 30 1:50.9 500m 1:50.9 257 1182 31 4:46.0 1,250m 1:54.4 234 1103 30 1:50.8 500m 1:50.8 257 1184 31
The first 2 intervals I was holding back a bit - fortunately, because there was only just enough left to do the last interval at the same pace as the first 500m.

We now have 6 boats floating, after good work from Jill and Sheena today to fill the ladies' seats =D> =D>
There are a few days left for JonT to regain his place in boat 3 ...

Inspired by these times, I attempted an improvement. I focused on the 1250m section (as Plummy rightly surmised, the week spot), which perversely distracted from the 500s 🤪🤬

FS2 is slightly improved though - good luck everyone for the final few days Image

A well done everyone ! And a AHHH thats hurt... I did this 2nd and last attempt in the lunch break. And everything worked as planed: the first 500m easier as in my first go 1:40, the 1250m scheduled for a 1:43 pace and the last 500m all in. Sorry felton for switching the places...but there is still plenty of time left...to reverse it ! :P

Great results by everyone! Really great to see the competition! I feel that I should give it another go tomorrow as Paul is so close and I would like to stay in the current boat. But then there is also the 2k for the IRL. Both would be too much, so what to do?!? we will know by Thursday I guess
Recommendations welcome!

Back is in pretty bad shape. My wonderful wife has to help me get my socks on...bless her! [-o<

Didn't want to break whatever CTC streak I have going so lowered the DF and gave it my best. Pretty frustrating as I felt like things were starting to come together after the Carole McNally CTC and a moderate effort 2k which produced a 6:53. I'm able to ride a bike so doing my best to stay in shape.
