Sorry Fred, you will have to give it another go ;-)
Though reluctant I had already in mind to try this one again. Even if I don't improve my result, I think the combination with the IRL is great, I improved that one beyond imagination and I think the CTC interval helps.
Having said that, I'm not looking forward very much to another CTC-run.

But very good rowing, Tako ^O^ ^O^ ^O^ Very steady as well, to my opinion.

Some healthy competition going on in this month‘s ctc! Dave and Ian for example, or Paul, Fred and Tako (sorry guys, can‘t join your competition, you‘re too fast for me (but I‘m working on it  )).

Had my first go yesterday. I had been focussing on middle distance stuff lately with my 30 minutes race coming up in four weeks (getting my excuses in early :D ). I reckoned that a 1:50 pace for the 1ks and a 1:48 pace for 250s should be doable. This is how it went:

The 1:50 soon turned out to be too comfortable and the 1:48 likewise. The final 1k was tough but I‘m happy with my overall time of 12:34. Hope to go sub 12:30 the next time :fswink:

Today is the day to TRY to sort this out. Early excuse :- very sore legs after a lot of running while refereeing a rugby match yesterday.

Good luck with it Jon! So far you've done everything right: you got your excuses in, you lulled Dave and Ian in a false sense of security, no show them how this ctc is done properly! :fswink:

No chance of catching those guys, but a big improvement over what had been previously a truly dire row (figures in brackets are delta from last so-called row).

I set off with a target of 1:55 for the 1k intervals, and 50 seconds to complete each 250m. Results below - slightly off on the 250m intervals, but pretty consistent overall, and reverse splits for the 1k.

3:50.3 1,000m 1:55.1 (+3.1 improvement - already worried I have gone out too fast!)
0:51.6 250m 1:43.2 (-2 - no panic, this is about pace!)
3:49.6 1,000m 1:54.8 (+5.6 - now you're talking!)
0:51.3 250m 1:42.6 (+2.4 - that pacing is paying off)
3:49.3 1,000m 1:54.6 (+7.2 - very happy, and still below HR Max)

....giving a time of 13:12.1 compared to previous time of 13:48.3. Way more than I really hoped for. Now, where's that well earned beer

Well, I gave it another go today. Being given a timeslot while one of my sons was playing football and the other was studying so they weren't on the Playstation in the same room as the C2 I managed to improve every rep a bit, but only a tiny bit, so the gap with Tako went from some 11 seconds to 6.2 seconds, I managed 12:09.00. No excuse like Jon, I was just a linesman at footbaal for two 10-minute games yesterday during a tournament of one of my booys, but being busy with some other household-duties I actually thought of it as a training. Start at about the same pace as the former attempt and see where it leads.
The last 1K was really tough again, felt like quitting a couple of times, but realizing that I could be slower then last time and still improve a little kept me going. And also that one turned out to be a bit faster then the last K last time.
Peter, I'm sure you can go under that 12:30. I think there might be some improvement possible in the 250's, just go full speed, even it's just for the last 100 meters of both rep's and you might get those 4 seconds already. 3 minutes rest will get you back on track for the next 1K.

Really great with all this competition and cheering each other forward! Great efforts so far! Surely more to come!

Thanks Fred for showing me that my attempt wasn't as slow as I otherwise feel these days. I guess it will take more time to be fully back from the off time in December. At least I am soon back on track with my season goal of 7k a day :-)

2nd attempt today and already feeling a lot fitter than a week ago Image. Just managed to pip Fred by a second but not really close to challenging Tako for a place on boat 1 yet (a very good row btw Tako Image). Maybe by the end of the month I'll be closer to 12 minutes

Happy to have got this done.

Well done to all of you that have got the year off to a flying start =D> =D>

I'm facing something like that right now. There will be no progress in my score in the near future. Let's see how long before recovery.

Agreed - well done to all who have had a go at this one.

After much trepidation and a failed attempt earlier in the month I eventually tackled(survived) this challenge - it was worse than I was expecting and I blew up on the last leg, narrowly avoiding an HD with 550m to go.
In retrospect I may have pushed a bit too hard on the 250's, but a 3min rest should have been enough.
Temporarily pushed Mr Weiss out of boat 2(sorry Peter )

Good to have you on board, Paul. I think everyone agrees that this is a tough one. Fortunately there's enough time left to kill ourselves once more on this one (though my cold prevents me for sure the next days, lucky me). Let's see where it leads.

Yes, very well done, Paul, on your attempt :!: =D> =D> Sorry to kick you out of Boat 2 :!: (Edit)

Also had a failed attempt earlier this month (HD in 2nd 1k rep), so careful today not to blow up again, trying to ease off, even in the short reps. Maybe would push in the last rep, but felt hard and not comfortable, so wasn´t going to happen:

1: 3:23.5 1:41.7 30
2: 0:46.8 1:33.6 36
3: 3:24.9 1:42.4 31
4: 0:47.1 1:34.2 38
5: 3:24.4 1:42.2 34

Nice one Erik, very solid.

I've got an entry to put in for my daughter Olivia, however I can't remember the pw I used for her previously. Nor can I remember my C2 forum logon! #-o
Could someone please ask Dougie to reset the pw for "Olivia Smith"?
In the mean time I'll sort out the C2 forum bit.
thanks a lot.
