November CTC: 4 x 750m (3r)
Steve Berridge of Red Line Rowers has posted the November CTC:
"Apologies if the November selection by Red Line Rowers is less adventurous than some but after recent controversies we thought we would avoid a ranking piece or something too “niche” and so have selected a popular 2k training piece, AKA the Red Line Rev Up. For the forthcoming 2k race season, 4 x 750 (3r). First rep static start, subsequent ones from a rolling start and no rate restrictions, enjoy !!"

Wanted to check how it feels. At least today quite horrible. If I hadn't rowed three reps allready I don't think I would have started the last one. But anywayz, I'm on the board...

Well done on holding that last one down - looks like it was very nasty.

On my way to the 3MM lifetime mark today I thought I could give it a first go and paced all four 750m @1:50.0 almost hitting the 11:00.0 sharp. Ok first marker and enjoying being in boat I for a few hours/minutes/seconds....

Re: November CTC: 4 x 750m (3r)
Fred, that looks even more painful than mine-well done on finishing it
Tako, just a marker for you I expect you will beat that by some way on your next go
As usual I went off too fast but the first two felt OK then reality hit me
10:55.5-1:49.3-40 Using DF148
2:42.7-1:48.4-38-felt OK
2:43.3-1:48.7-38-still OK slowing a bit
2:44.8-1:49.8-41-had to rate up even more
2:44.7-1:49.8-43-really tough from 500 to go

Nice session Alan, well done! Do you usually row at DF 148 or did you increase it for this session? Looks a bit high to me?

Thanks Peter, I have done all my SBs and best PP and WP sessions in the last 3 to 4 years using a similar DF.
In the good old days when I was a youngster and achieved my PS in my late 50's I used 130.

Re: November CTC: 4 x 750m (3r)
Saw that Jan had put in an impressive average of 1:54.0 (nice one Jan!) and thought I might struggle a little to beat that as my back and legs were sore from non-rowing activities. The rolling starts and 3 min rests were very pleasant and after a bit of a struggle I managed 11:01.9 (annoyingly just over the 11 minute mark) and an average of 1:50.3. I'm pretty happy with that and think there's a handful of seconds to come yet.
Then did another 5000m cool down in 20:43.6 with neg splits and nicely in control throughout (and for once actually feeling quite smooth and balanced at times)

Re: November CTC: 4 x 750m (3r)
Thanks Dave and Tako - and well done everybody who had a first go at this challenge!
I chickened out of having a second attempt at last month's challenge (although JonT kicking me out of my boat almost made me try again), but I'm certainly planning to try this one again. Don't think I'll find many more seconds though, this one was hard enough already.
After reading Fred's writeup I decided that some planning was needed. I had a quick look at people's pace compared to last month's challenge, and it seemed like most people were a couple of seconds slower than last month. So I was aiming for a pace in the 1:54 - 1:55 range. I started with a pace that felt comfortable, and managed to speed up on every rep:
This row got me into our first boat for a few minutes, until Plummy knocked me out - well done

2:49.9 750m 1:53.2 241 1128 30
The last rep was pretty much all I had left, but I may be able to improve a little in the first reps. I should maybe try increasing my stroke rate a bit? This row got me into our first boat for a few minutes, until Plummy knocked me out - well done

I did kind of target you Jan - sorry (well, only a bit ). I'm only in boat 1 until Ian Bee kicks me out like he normally does though...

Nice negative splits there Jan, I like that!
Dave, already a fast attempt, but given how quick your last rep was I think you can do this session at a 1:49 pace. Maybe not now, but definetely later in the month if you use it as part of your training for WIRC.

I'm inclined to agree with you Peter. Plus I have to make Tako have another go and give Alan a run for his money!!

Re: November CTC: 4 x 750m (3r)
Well done all the FSs having had a go at this month´s challenge And then especially to those having had more than one go My view on the reps is that the last two can get pretty nasty (also reflected on my first go...)
The Echo showed a similar EF to the one 6 months ago, that is in the 40-45% range... This means that the once so proud Liefcat can´t really aspire for a place in Boat 1 at the end of the months. Anyways, felt relatively OK doing this challenge today:
1: 2:31.3 1:40.8 34
2: 2:30.6 1:40.4 35
3: 2:33.9 1:42.6 34 (Brisk start, but soon had to SD)
4: 2:34.1 1:42.7 34 (Trying to play it safe - but still felt hard)
T= 10:09.8 1:41.6 34

Don't worry about the EF - it takes a while to improve, you will get there.
I will hopefully have an attempt next week - I slipped a disc on Monday so not been able to row(or drive, or walk much ) =- it is on the mend though.

Vowed not to wait until last day of month to do this. Rate restricted effort to get a feel for things. Plan was 1:44 but 1st rep felt ok. Subsequent ones less so but I managed to hold the pace.

I also hope yoú'll recover soon, Erik.
I had another go this morning, decided to start slower than the last time, 1:45 now. Managed negative splits, but don't know (feeling the way I did afterwards) whether there's much room for improvement. We'll see what happens. Now in boat one, but not for long when some others give it a serious try I think.
