Thanks for the encouragement Peter!
Yesterday I gave it another try, mainly inspired by all the other comments and results posted so far!

Currently I mainly focus on meters for the FTC and to defend my position in the Meterboard. Also I am soon back on track for my season goal of 7k a day, but these challenges are too tempting. So instead of focusing on passing Paul and Patrick again I started with the C2CTC after a 2k warmup.
Pretty happy with the result of 6:56.5, which just puts me ahead of Fred and Paul into Boat I (for now ;-) ).

While the Italian whistler was gone this time the Erg kept sliding, so the two rest periods were used to put it back in place, which did not really help. In the final 250m I slid of the mat and into the cupboard again and had to shorten the stroke a lot Image

Anyway happy with the result!

Very nice result Tako, well done! =D> It's very close between you, Paul and Fred, you three are only 0.4 seconds apart

Did you destroy the cupboard in those final 250m or just touch it? Be careful with your household while rowing, the wife might not like you destroying the interior :D

Great row Paul!
With that time I will not be able to catch you. Congrats on a great time!! It also helped to push the Boat-1 higher in the ranking :-)

Hello,

it is been a little time...but fot the most of you i guess there is no missing mojo here (seeing those results- very good ^O^ =D> ). First ctc since 4 weeks...i am not happy but also not disapointed- it´s ok...perhaps i find another day for a improvement...or maybe not.

It is may 2k pace of june :? ...

how is this ctc compared to a real 2k ? We have 3min rest- but have to start again- from a stoped or nearly stoped flywheel...

my splits

DO NOT READ DURING OR BEFORE EATING.

Terrible performance. Great commitment. I have never finished a row before where I have done a mini-puke (during the 1250) which, to my horror, escaped and dribbled down my leg as I rowed with continued lack of impact but high levels of determination.

Luckily I row in my garage and not in a gym

With that intense row from JonT in mind, I fear my second attempt lacked anything like the determination shown. Heavy legs for no good reason (wash out weekend for any decent metres of any kind) made any improvement a far fetched goal.

What df are people settling on? My two attempts have both been slightly above my favoured 2km setting; though in nonathon terms this is my weakest distance, so maybe a return to the drawing board is needed....

Interesting question, Ian.
Unlike most, I lower the DF for sprinty type stuff.
My sweet spot DF is 220 - 225, for this challenge I had my first attempt at DF 202, then the second at DF 180, where I got quite a big improvement..
The minute break before the 250m leg is not long enough to ease the muscle fatigue that you get from the longer pieces, especially if you are on a higher DF than you are accustomed to, and hence the last 90-100m of the final piece can be absolute hell!!

I'm still confused but I guess it's "ROW" rather than "READ"? :D

Great display of willpower and a very lively description, too! I had planned to have my second go today but now I don't know if that's a good idea?
Your heart rate after the 500m is quite high, maybe too high and you paid for it in the following 1250m?

Second attempt and this one HURT.

Improvement of 4.9s to 7:12.5. Struggling to breathe after the 1250m (scary feeling - managed that segment in 1:50.4 average) and nearly paddled the 250 but knew it would blow the advantage I had in the bank so just set off and held on as best I could. Still a bit wobbly now...

Very nice Plummy =D> =D> .
1 minute rest after the 1250m is not enough, and that last 80-90m of the 250m is pure pain!!
Well done for sticking it out.

Again - managed a 5k "cool down" in 20:59.5 (which I still think is a respectable 5k) very shortly afterwards. Just need bigger lungs....and heart....and legs...:-)

Great improvement Dave and a nice display of willpower, must be a nice mental booster for you for the Welsh IRC. I think Paul‘s description of the 1250 and 250 is spot on!

Great time by the way Paul, 6:45.2 is seriously fast! No way I can get anywhere near that!

Great performance of Claudius, too.

I had my second go yesterday and after my first attempt with h/ds in the 500 and the 1250 I followed Dave‘s advice and set a more conservative target of

_500 / 1:45 (was: 1:40)
1250 / 1:48 (was: 1:47)
_250 / 1:37 (was: 1:37)

Well that was the plan and this is how it went:

_500 / 1:44.9 / 31
1250 / 1:47.3 / 29
_250 / 1:37.0 / 37

Total: 7:01.7 (was: 7:07.4)

Not overcooking the first 500 helped a lot. In the 1250 I noticed that I could go quicker than the planned 1:48 so I decided to speed it up a bit knowing it could compromise the final 250. But that was a risk I was willing to take and it turned out that I could just do it at 1:37 pace. This is a really interesting ctc, physically and mentally challenging.

Great work Peter (and every one else chucking their all at this one). Most of my gain was the first 500 where this time I did 1:45.9 where last time it was 1:49.9.

Pretty sure I won't get a better time as I'm away next week.

Some great rowing has been going on, Unfortunately I had some problems with my knee and foot the last couple of weeks (tendon injury, pain, I don't know exactly). Only some easy rowing here, perhaps after some quiet rowing this week I can have a final go next weekend.
Congratulations with all the fine results here.

Back in the gym for the first time in 2 weeks and boy did it show
Really struggled at the back end of the 1250m and basically limped home in the final 250. Still, a score on the board which is the most important thing

(forgot to take a photo it seems)

500 - about 1:39
1250 - about 1:42/3
250 - about 1:41

Total time 6:45.8

That's a very good performance Felton after two weeks without gym training

I had my third go last night and hoped to better my old time of 7:01.7 and probably go sub 7. Plan was to simply to row each rep faster than last time with special focus on the 1250m. This is how it went:

_500 / 1:44.6 (1:44.9) / 32 / 166
1250 / 1:46.4 (1:47.3) / 30 / 177
_250 / 1:36.8 (1:37.0) / 41 / 176

Total: 6:59.1 (7:01.7)

Very happy with doing this session in under 7 minutes :D Most of the gain was done in the middle session but it was hard work. During the 1 minute rest (which felt more like 1 second) I was afraid I might have overcooked it in the middle part. To my own surprise I could beat a 1:37 pace in the last bit albeit only with a (for me) very high stroke rate. I think that's it for me with the October ctc, might have another go at the IRL mile instead.

Made it to 6:53.1. But it hurts :~c 1.3 seconds after boat 2, I don't think I'm gonna get there in the next few days... But anyway, boat 3 is a bit faster again.
A comparison with my last try:
Was
1:43.5
4:28.8
0:44.5

Now
1:38.5
4:26.8
0:47.8

As you can see the last 250mtr were quite tough.
Good luck to the other rowers this last weekend of october.
