Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Don't worry Dave, the handicapping won't change, it's based on the world records for the age and weight classes.
Very nice row by the way, puts you on the top spot (until Barbara comes along ), like in the previous round!

Did this and the c2ctc today. I wanted to break 6:00 on the mile but man did it take a lot out of me

Very nice row Chuck, one can see that you weren't sure about pacing this one beforehand. Very even pacing for the first 1200m, than quite a strong finish sprint.
There's a lot more to come me thinks!

Thanks Peter. Actually the pacing was all fly and die. I got the projected finish under 6 and then held on as long as I could. At 1200 I just closed my eyes and counted down for 50 strokes

Nice row Daveplummy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2017 4:25 pm I managed a respectable mile last night which by default was an SB as it was my first with a 5:54.4. When I looked at the pace needed to get under 6 minutes my heart sank a bit as it had to be sub 1:51 and I was kind of hoping for 1:53~1:52 ish. The handicapping seems quite generous as I ended up with 5:15 (unless that changes as more scores pour in??). I may have another go or two and see if I can dip under 1:50.0 average
Had my first go today -
Set up the monitor for 1609m - 0 rest - 391m in the hope of getting a 2k SB.
Did the last 400m of the mile too quickly(1:42's) and had to abandon the 2k idea .
The tale of the tape :
Time : 5:34.7
SPM : 34
DF : 202
I will have a few more attempts at this in the (probably vain) hope of getting sub 5:30.

Thanks Fred, Peter - that was pretty much flat out - might try upping the DF and dropping the rate a bit as I do not have the fitness to rate at 34 SPM.

Had my first go last night and ended up with a time of 5:42.4 / 1:46.4. We now have eight scores for the team competition and our lead in the October score is even a bit bigger

Starting to feel handicapped. Although I managed a great improvement to 5:38.9 I still have AGAIN one of the two lowest adaptive scores

Also, relative youth is no advantage in this competition, they are giving us oldies the advantage .
Your profile indicates that there is going to be a lot more to come from you still.

Managed a slight improvement to 5:41.0 down from 5:42.4 (although I swear the PM said 5:40.9 which is a bit annoying). Might have another go later in the month.

I'm sure that hurt for the 1.4s improvement Peter, but every little will help the team. I briefly considered it tonight but figured I've been pushing a bit hard recently so decided to go for a few more metres as I probably won't be rowing at all next week (unless I can get over to Fitness Matters in Exeter as I won't be that far away)

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
I got back on the erg today for only the second time in the last 5 weeks. I was thinking of doing the CTC, but decided it might be better to do the IRL and try the CTC in a couple of days if my back is not made any worse by today's efforts.
I did 5 minutes warm up and was hoping to be able to do the IRL somewhere around 1:55 pace. That ambition lasted about 100m, at which stage I figured finishing without HDing should be my main objective. Towards the end, I noticed I wasn't that far off 2:00 pace, so decided to do a final sprint to see if I could get the overall split under 2:00. Didn't quite make it - finishing in 6:26.3 when I needed 6:26.2 for sub 2:00 pace!
Anyway, at least I have a score on the board and I'll think about doing the CTC later in the week. It'll probably be Saturday as Jennifer and I are heading down to stay in Cong on Thursday to check out venues for the "day after" party for our daughter Elaine's wedding in December.

Also a slight improvement here. From 5:49.1 to 5:44.8. Won't be of much help to the teamscore I think, but I'm satisfied I managed to do it after a few weeks without much rowing. Next I'm gonna try to improve my CTC score.

Very nice, Fred - all improvements count
Great time Ralf
I decided to have another bash at this with a view to a 2k SB, again - and once again bottled it with 500m to go on the mile - decided to go for a decent improvement and managed a 1:36 500m to finish off with.
Very tempted to have one more dedicated all-out go at this challenge before the end of the month :

Re: Indoor Rowers League 2017 / 2018
Two great rows by Ralf and Paul, thank you guys!
Now that the other teams have put their score in we're not in top spot anymore, but we're still #6 out of 49 teams, a very respectable result me thinks.
Paul, I wonder what you could do on a full out attempt on the mile (I'm sure you do, too ). We're only 18 seconds behind spot #5, go for it

Not sure what is wrong with the site, but it will not show our team members when pressing the buttons in the 8on8 ranking.
So I checked out the IRC scores. If I remember the members correctly it was Barbara and me on 9th and 10th seat.
My time so far 5:38.9 (adj 5:28) while adj 8th was 5:25.9 by callali. So I knew if I want to help scrap the extra seconds for the team I would have to beat that one, so I did
5:28.0 which is adj 5:18.6
So a 7.3 sec for the team!!
Had to get my frustration out of having been kicked back into boat 3 in the C2CTC by Ralf
