Hi Ann

Welcome to Free Spirits. The meter board is a huge motivational tool and trying to maintain your position or move up the rankings can often encourage you to row when otherwise you mightn't have been bothered. When I was rowing regularly (I'm currently nursing an injury, so doing very little erging), I would often watch those around me and try to stay ahead. I admit it can be frustrating when soneone logs a whole load of meters and zooms past you, but this usually because the team member in question is not glued to a keyboard like many of us are and only logs on from time to time to record what they have done since the last time they logged on.

Regarding the team competitions, I agree that it is frustrating when team members don't sign up and we end up lower than the rankings than we should be. Our team captain Stan (Andrew Stanway) is pretty good at sending out reminder emails when the various team challenges are coming up, but nobody is obliged to take part.

Hi Paul, I'm not sure what's going on here but apart from the attached link, the post that you have so kindly replied to is an exact copy of one that Ann Seidman first posted on September 11th 2007 ( page 35 ) under the thread title, ' Why Make Your Meters a Surprise '.

Is someone, obviously not our own Ann and Peter, playing ' Silly Billies' ?

Apologies to ' Ann and Peter ' if this is a genuine post.

I thought there was something strange about it, but I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt and take these things at face value. I probably should have trusted my instincts. But no harm done and it's nice to see Ann back posting (even if we are both languishing in the lower reaches of this season's meterboard)

But I have tried to row on occassion. Just not consistently!
We are off to Alaska for the next two weeks but I plan to get some serious meters done onboard. ^O^

That sounds great. As we are currently ranked at numbers 238 and 243 on the meterboard, the only way is up! :fswink:

Thank you Ann - we cannot have impostors, ' imposturating ' you and Peter - we much prefer the genuine articles. :D

Finding your original post was one of those quirks of the memory - I had read it a while back, during one of my meanderings through the various past threads. I then scrolled through the oldest threads - your red signature stands out well, and soon found it.

Have a wonderful holiday, please give my love to all the wildlife, especially the sea otters.

That was very commendable of you Paul - I'm afraid that the Internet and all its workings has turned me in to an incurable cynic. :(
