Third try today... a little bit higher stroke rate.

My elbow has been improving. Steady rows like these don't seem to make it worse and don't seem to slow down recovery. So my goal today was 2:10 @ 26 spm, with a drag factor, 125.
Date 6,344m pace watts rate AHR TE df 11-01 31:39.3 2:29.6 105 18 127 2.5 115 11-03 29:29.4 2:19.4 129 22 134 3.5 115 11-06 27:24.3 2:09.5 161 26 147 4.5 125
Still coming along, nicely. :P

Had a go at this today with the intention of setting a marker and not pushing too fast too soon. Didn't really have a target just went at what felt comfortable. I like this distance and will have a few more goes with an aim of getting close to 1:50/500m. Medium/long term goal is to hit 1:45/500m for 6k

That's a strong, nicely-paced row, that is! =D>

=====================

Fourth try today... wasn't really sure how to pace this one.

The pace predictor, using my most recent 4' and 10' times suggested a pace of 2:13, but I had already completed a 2:10 row. :-k
My last three attempts suggested a 2:04 at 28 spm was possible.
Maybe for my legs, but not for my heart rate and breathing!

I decided to try for a 2:05 pace, but to let my stroke rate ramp up as needed. It was not pretty.

My legs felt okay, but my breathing was barely hanging on until 2500m to go, then I slowly started to fade. At 2000m to go, I had to slow down my pace or HD. I started seeing splits of 2:10. I dug in at 600 to go... and started seeing 2:05 again... and then with 300 to go I hit the afterburner.

It was brutal.

Good for you Zoot :D

I am now using my OCD to focus on the Crazy Bear challenge (30 HMs in 45 days) so its 20197 m every day for me starting yesterday-this morning which was just the second day was particularly hard at 6 am in my local gym-mental more than physical

2nd attempt today and felt able to push a little harder. Still on course to break 1:50/500m by the end of the month

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but with the letters alphabetized like they ought to be!

When you described the Crazy Bear challenge, I imagined 30 days of moderate-to-easy HMs, not 1:30s! This is going to be a hard month for you, I reckon. Hope you get that second wind, soon!

First and probably only attempt at this month's challenge.
The negative splitting make it look easy, but it felt very hard from the start. I had difficulty finding a good rhythm.

That's a hell of improvement you've made so far zoot, well done! =D> Your last go looks especially painful. Long distance rows can be hard physically and mentally, but you handled the situation very well. Can't wait to read your next report!

Felton, I wish I could call a 1:54 pace for this distance comfortable, well done (especially for your second go)! =D>

Roger, your pacing makes it look easy indeed, I think you could go faster next time :fswink:

After a week off due a holiday I had my first go at this Monday night with a rather disappointing 25:26.1 in the course of which I had to slow down several times and almost handled down. So I had another go yesterday and as usual I set myself three goals:

- bronze: beat my old time (25:26.1)
- silver: go sub 25:00
- gold: go sub 24:45

Plan was to start out at 2:00 pace for as long as possible and then wind it up in the final 1k. That's how it went:

1300 / 1:59.9 / 27 / 158
2600 / 1:59.9 / 27 / 168
3900 / 1:59.9 / 27 / 173
5200 / 2:00.0 / 27 / 174
6344 / 1:55.5 / 28 / 183

Total: 25:12.2 / 1:59.1 / 27

Everything went pretty much according to plan and I'm ok with reaching my bronze goal. I would have loved to go sub 25 but I guess that's too soon after my holiday. Will have at least one more go at this!

Great efforts so far!
Puts us at 9th place for the moment although we only have 6 results logged for November so far.
Well, still 10 days left ;-)

Logged with only hours to spare... Sorry! My sloooooow HMs, FM, and overall rowing break did not help when I had to sprint the 1k CTC :o and this followed, before dinner on the 30th.

Cannot tell if we got all our entries in? I have some odd mental block looking at that site. Help!

Looks like a 5k is up now? Oh boy!

Long week - no rowing thanks to an unusual schedule. Felt great to get this done, just not near PB. Good luck to all!

5000m - Dec 11
---------------------------------------
20:37.3 5000 2:03.7 27 s/m
---------------------------------------
1000 -- 2:05.3 - hadn't warmed up
2000 -- 2:02.6 - yes, nice to be back on the machine
3000 -- 2:04.1 - long week begins taking its toll
4000 -- 2:04.9 - realize average is creeping higher
5000 -- 2:01.6 - end in sight

Very nice row there Barbara! You sound as you will have another attempt, taking you closer to your PB?

After two weeks almost completely off the erg due to a nasty cold I had a first go last night to get used to fast rowing again. I ended up with a time of 20:00.5  :fswink: . Happy with that for now but will have another go before month's end.

Had my first go at the 5k last night, boy was that hard and I can really appreciate how good Barbara's row was now, she is ahead of me on the team rankings and her weighted time is phenomenal-well done Barbara =D> ^O^

I really tried to be more conservative last night so this is actually quite good pacing for me

19:35.5-1:57.5-32 using DF132
3:55.2-1:57.6-29-feeling good at this stage
3:53.4-1:56.7-30-getting a bit carried away
3:55.4-1:57.7-32-still Ok'ish but having to rate up already
3:57.9-1:58.9-34-very hot and sweaty and feeling it
3:53.7-1:56.8-36-managed a bit of a sprint for the last 200

2nd best 5k of the season after my SB of 19:28.3 so reasonably happy but this felt HARD

Indoor Rowers League 2016/2017

Post by Caratacus »

Well done Alan, I feel your pain as I also had a go at the 5k, my first row since November 11th!! It actually went better than I had feared although also had to rate up significantly in the second half to maintain pace. Hopefully I'll get more regular practice in and can get back under 18 minutes soon

Very strong row Felton, especially considering your long time off the erg!

Well done Alan and thanks for prviding me a new target  :fswink: It will be hard to beat though, but that's what a target should be, shouldn't it?
