Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
Roger thank you for all you do.
It appears I've benefitted (for now) from John seeking bluer pastures
Why I'm anywhere close to Erik, who I distinctly recall needing people to hold down his machine, is quite beyond me. No one has ever contemplated standing on my erg.
I hope we can find creative ways to recognize everyone who hops in a seat and helps float boats. Boat # being irrelevant to an enjoyable team effort.
I like that you look for interesting ways to present the data.

Thank you, Barbara.
It's not always easy to find a balance between celebrating participation whatever the score on the one hand and acknowledging performance on the other.
I thought you and others might like this all-time list of Free Spirited ladies with 10+ CTC challenges.

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
Interesting stats Roger. I must tell Jennifer she's 3rd on the all time list of Free Spirits ladies. She's a member of a gym and is quite fit, but only ever rows when I ask her to do the CTC. She's out for a walk at present, but I might ask her to do the 1k when she gets home, if she's not feeling too tired. We have a number boats ashore that are currently waiting for a lady to complete the crew.

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
In November 38 Free Spirits rowed the CTC. It wasn't the best of turnouts. In fact, this year we only had less participants in July.
Given that it was a simple 1k, not some intricate intervals with rate restrictions or something, I find that surprising.
All the more credits to those who did row the challenge! =D>
In more bad news (sorry!), our no. 1 boat was lower (22nd) than in any other month since I began compiling these sheets in 2013.
Much better news is that we had a Free Spirit entering a first CTC this month: a warm welcome to Michael Leonard!
Jubilees this month are two of our long-timers with amazing numbers: David Plumb (130) and Steve Smith (120)!

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
I'm sorry to say that myself and Jan didn't manage to row the CTC this month and it is quite likely we will not manage the next 4 months or so!Rodger wrote: It wasn't the best of turnouts. In fact, this year we only had less participants in July.
Our erg got put into storage last week with the rest of our belongings, and the few weeks before that were rather stressful dealing with the solicitors over the sale of our house! That eventually went through on Monday and we are leaving the country on Saturday for our trip around the southern hemisphere. If we find any ergs on our travels we will try to do the CTC or at least get some practice in.
We will put a post on the holiday thread with some updates as we go along

Hi Sheena (and Jan),
Looks like you set up some nice little trip for yourselves there!
Glad the stress is over. Have a great travel!

Wow, the big trip is here! So exciting. Please please do stay in touch you two since this is the only way I know to contact you!
It will be fun if you log remote CTCs on random ergs in farflung places.
Best wishes.

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
So that was another year of rowing CTCs.
There were 36 takers in December, one of 2016's least popular challenges. No debuts.
The 2016 leaderboard is now final, and the winner is... (wait for it... this is going to be a huge surprise...) Liefcat! Congratulations!
At the last moment, Alan jumped into the top 10 of the leaderboard (as John Steventon dropped out):
See the full list here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 1844071262
The CTC Club 50 has a new member: it's Barbara!
Here is the full list of Free Spirits who rowed at least 50 CTCs:
The following Free Spirits rowed all challenges in 2016:
Liefcat, Barbara H, Felton Humble, David Plumb, Peter Weiß, Kirstin Esau, alan wisniewski, Trevor Taylor, Jill Underwood, e-Clair and Andrew Stanway! =D> =D> =D>
On the other side of the spectrum, 19 Free Spirits were absent from the CTC in 2016 after at least three uninterrupted years of participation:
Philip Price (uninterrupted since 2006), Odd G. Aarrestad (2008), Roger Bangay (2006), Kirbyt (2007), Mikkel Ellesøe Hansen (2006), Cathrine Aarrestad (2008), colin Bradley (2008), Jane Daffern (2009), sjoerd plagmeijer (2007), Phil Lamb (2013), William Docter (2013), Jonathan Victory (2012), Den-j (2008), Phil Nolan (2013), Kåre (2013), Abbi Wells (2012), Julie Steventon (2013), rhr (2013), Olaf E. (2013).
I hope everyone is well!
Overall, participation has been very consistent in 2016. The most popular CTC was March's 9 x 300m / 30" rest with 45 participants. Lowest turnout (besides the one-day CTC) was in July: the 3 x 2813 (slowest rep to count) / 4 min rest, with 35 members representing Free Spirits.
Compared to previous years there was a slight rise in participation:

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
Hi!
I used to row 4 min intervals. I'll try january CTC few times. I had to change my userid though.
I can do shorter CTC in the future, have to improve my endurance little bit (or a lot )

Hi Helium, welcome back!
What was your previous userid on the CTC website? Just so I can match your new challenges with your old ones.

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
One other thing I noticed about our CTC participation is that the actual number of different members that took part seems to be going down. But the members that do row CTCs, do this more regularly. Excluding the one-day CTCs for good comparison, these were the numbers in the last four years:
2013: 122 Free Spirits rowed 501 CTCs; 4.1 average per member.*
2014: 92 Free Spirits rowed 468 CTCs; 5.1 average per member.
2015: 83 Free Spirits rowed 480 CTCs; 5.8 average per member.
2016: 77 Free Spirits rowed 482 CTCs; 6.3 average per member.
*2013 is a bit of a special case because of the October CTC that was dedicated to the memory of Gaye McOnie and had 70 FS participating, including a substantial number of members that usually don't row CTCs.

Re: Free Spirits CTC Participation and Leaderboard
We had a good start in January participation-wise, with 41 Free Spirits and 8 full boats.
Well, we did chose the challenge ourselves, so I expected nothing less.
There were no debuts this month, but we did see the welcome return of HeliKuru (formerly known as Helium), returning for the first time since August 2010.
As for the "Round Numbers Round-up", lots to mention this month:
120 - Paul Victory
80 - Gillian Burrell
70 - David Taylor
60 - Clare Burrell
50 - me
40 - Jonathan Davis
20 - Amanda Behrendt
10 - Guenther Heldt
A new CTC participation list and leaderboard for 2017 is on this sheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 1935085100
Edit: as before, points on the leaderboard are scored by participating in the CTC (100 points per challenge) plus a number of points dependent on the boat you finished in, with a maximum of 100 (101 - boat number).
