Sub 36 for the 10k is very impressive, all those meters have clearly done you some good

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
New 6000m SB to 23:33.8 (6.9s improvement). I bailed on an attempt at this with 1000m to go on Thursday (hence the 5000m @ 19:43.x) as my lungs were shot and I very nearly did the same today but backed off in the 4th and 5th 1000s to 1:59/1:58 just to get me into the last 1000. Managed that at 1:56.0 average
As my all time PB is 22:36.0 it's hardly that impressive though - given how much this hurt

Congrats David!
I beat my 6k PB today as well, 10.7s better that in Jan 2015.
But I guess that's it for now, the 5k and 1h are harder, and I'm happy now. 4 PBs was not what I expected while preping for the "turn of the Seassons" FMs and the TdE.

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Well done Ralf and Dave (Ralf, you know that there is designated PB thread on this forum? ).
Seems the 6k are kind of popular at the moment.
1000 / 1:57.3 / 27 / 162
2000 / 1:57.4 / 27 / 168
3000 / 1:57.1 / 27 / 174
4000 / 1:57.0 / 27 / 179
5000 / 1:57.2 / 27 / 183
6000 / 1:56.0 / 27 / 185
Total: 23:24.5 / 1:57.0
As you can tell from the heart rate this was hard work. In fact it felt tough already after the first 2k. Somehow I managed to dig through it and am very happy with an improvement of 9.4 seconds (and five shiny nonathlon points ).

Being back from my holiday for two days I thought I'd test my form with a 6k TT yesterday. Old SB was 23:33.9 (1:57.8 ), so very close to Dave's time and I'd been happy with any improvement whatsoever. This is how it went:

Great job Peter! Congrats! I wish I would have come back that fit from vacation. Was there so little wind in the Adria that you had to row the big boat?? I am not at all close to any PB or SB at the moment.

Thanks Ralf and Tako
Tako, I was surprised myself how well I did. Maybe it was the mix of hard training before the holiday and then a total rest for one week? I hope you'll be back on track soon!

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
After my second CTC effort today (37.1s) I thought maybe I could take a fraction off my relatively weak 500m SB. Managed to knock 3s off going from 1:42.5 to 1:39.5.
Completely died in the last 50m so maybe with completely fresh legs (no CTC just before) I could knock a second or two more off that.

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Very nice 500 there Dave! Looks like we're pretty closely matched again over this distance.
I'm happy to report a new SB for the hour. After a long weekend away with lots of good food I thought I'd test my fitness (and burn off some calories) with an hour of power. Due to holidays and absence I hadn't been training too much recently so my aim was to beat my current SB of 14470m (2:04.4), even if only by little. This is how it went:
10 / 2:03.4 / 26 / 154
20 / 2:03.1 / 25 / 165
30 / 2:02.9 / 26 / 170
40 / 2:02.6 / 26 / 174
50 / 2:02.4 / 26 / 176
60 / 2:00.9 / 26 / 182
Total: 14683 / 2:02.5
Very happy with an improvement of 213m but like in the 6k last week this was like a battle mind vs. body. It felt tough already with 20 mins. in as you can tell from the heart rate figures but I was able to just keep going. I think I got the pacing quite right which helped a bit.
Dave, I'm afraid now you have to look at your hour again

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Last week after a long day driving I managed 14405m on a hotel gym machine with a dodgy footstrap and today after a 5am start and 425 miles of driving and preferring to go to bed than row for an hour I managed 14335m - so I think my 14514m SB has a chance to be "re-visited" when I have a rested day Peter

Best 10K this season. Also better then the last two seasons. Under 39 minutes (38:55.9) for the first time since january 2015. Nice way to start the week.

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
When I looked at my ranked workouts for this season the other day I noticed that my 5k pace (1:56.6) was slower than my 6k pace (1:56.3) I have to admit though that my 5k time (19:26.6) was set at the Madchester handicap race and included a 15 seconds handicap start. But I never came round doing a proper 5k TT so it was high time to do so.
I reckoned that a 5k could be rowed at a pace 1 - 1.5 seconds faster than a 6k. Given my 6k SB was rowed at a 1:56.3 I hoped for a pace of 1:55.3, maybe even down another half a second. This is how it went:
1000 / 1:55.7 / 28
2000 / 1:55.5 / 28
3000 / 1:55.2 / 27
4000 / 1:54.5 / 27
5000 / 1:52.7 / 28
Total: 19:07.3 / 1:54.7
Very happy with an improvement of 19.3 seconds or 4.3 seconds if you consider the 15 seconds handicap. With the 5k pace now being 1.6 seconds faster than the 6k, does that mean I have to row the 6k again?

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Thanks Dave! In the runup to my 18mm lifetime today I decided that my 30 mins needed a closer inspection. SB was 7606m (1:58.3) and with the 5k rowed at 1:54.7 two days ago I reckoned I could do the 30 mins at a pace 2.5 seconds slower (1:57.2). This is how it went:
05 / 1:57.6 / 27
10 / 1:57.2 / 27
15 / 1:57.0 / 27
20 / 1:56.3 / 27
25 / 1:56.1 / 27
30 / 1:54.5 / 28
Total: 7725m / 1:56.5
Very happy with a new SB by 109m For the first fifteen minuts I held the split between 1:57 and 1:58 constantly. At that point overall pace was at 1:57.3, so a new PB was in sight at a split I had reckoned beforehand.
On the other hand I told myself it would be really nice to go beyond 7700m which unfortunately required a pace of 1:56.8. So I had to find another 0.5 seconds in pace and tried to hold the pace between 1:56 and 1:57. With five minutes to go I saw "7700m" as a projected finish for the first time. That gave me a good boost to go even quicker from now on (new target: improve SB by more than 100m (you never run out of targets, isn't that great )). Not too much left to be honest but still very happy with the improvement.
The downside is that my 6k pace is only 0.2 seconds quicker than my 30 mins pace. I guess I'll have to do the ctc again

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
It certainly does Peter - take some pain for the team
Great 30 mins. I think 7725 is within a few metres of my best Starnberg distance (7721 or 7727 rings a bell). Looked it up, it was 7721m - but that was in 2012!! The last time I went over 7700 was in the 2012/13 season so I think you're going to smash anything I can do. I'd still like to get over 7600 though for 30 mins as I haven't failed to do so in 12 years.

Did a 30 min session this morn. Hard distance, week 3 of the pete plan. 1.47.1/500, 8403m. Df 128. First time Ive tried to go that hard in a 30 min block(tried for and hit 1.50/500 last saturday). Decent benchmark for future training.

Re: Anyone had any SEASON's bests recently?
Thanks. I had a look at the C2 rankings and its a decent effort. Think ill need to improve my shorter distance times (need to man up and do a 2k test again) and outright power before I can improve on this test significantly What is the CTC?

The CTC (Cross Team Challenge) is a monthly team competition. This month's challenge is a straight 6k test so would clearly suit you. Follow the link and post a nice fast score for Free SpiritsDavidba wrote:What is the CTC?
