Good idea to bump the thread plummy. In the unlikely event I achieve any times that are worth 900+ nonathlon points, I'll post the results here. Might be the incentive I need to get off (or is that back on?) my a*** and start erging again.

Good Work David, fighting the HD demons!

I did a HM SB today, it got even better than the Pace predictor suggests since 3 weeks and I could drop the pace 0.1s below my 1h pace \o/
Now starts the last week before the TdE and I will take it easy.

Fancied trying a 2k test today to give myself a target for the rest of the season. 1st attempt so a season's best by default but felt pretty tough and met my target of sub 6:50 so feel it warranted a place on this page 8) Image

Very nice 2k there Felton and very evenly paced, well done! =D> I also had the idea to do a 2k TT (don't ask me why). I did one earlier in the season in 7:27.3 (1:51.8 ) and I was pretty confidend I could beat that. Plan was to start out at 1:51 pace for the first 1k, then 1:50 for the third quarter and all in for the final 500m. This is how it went:

_500 / 1:50.5 / 29
1000 / 1:50.6 / 29
1500 / 1:49.9 / 29
2000 / 1:47.5 / 31

Total: 7:18.6 / 1:49.6 / 29

Pacing went pretty much according to plan, in fact 1:51 felt a bit too comfortable to start with. Happy with an SB by 8.7 seconds, hope to go sub 7:15 soon :D

Nice 2ks there Caratacus and Grobi.

I attempted the 5k today and finished in 19:12.0 (1:55.2 splits). Quite pleased with that as it's a bit too hot at 33 deg C here in Milan.
The plan was a row the first 4k in 1:56 splits, then speed up if I had anything left in the last 1k. Thankfully I did as I managed the last 1k in 1:52.4 splits.

Some great times here - nice work fellas!

I'd like to go sub 7:20 again for 2k but not sure I fancy attempting that just yet...

Managed to scrape 0.7s off my 1k time this morning. Never felt anything other than a struggle with most splits in the 1:47.x range but the last 200 was 1:45.5.

Was 3:34.8, now 3:34.1. Big fat 3 Nonathlon points though...:-)

Sounds like a lot work/pain for three nonathlon points Dave :shock:

Set a new SB for 500m last night. Old SB was 1:42.6 from two weeks ago and I hoped to go sub 1:40:

100 / 1:42.0 / 35 -> lost some time here as the erg slid around and I had to slow down
200 / 1:40.0 / 33 -> settling into a nice rhythm
300 / 1:40.0 / 33 -> still feeling fine
400 / 1:37.5 / 37 -> time for a finish sprint, or is it too early?
500 / 1:38.0 / 40 -> ok, sprinting was too early, legs completely empty now

Total: 1:39.4 / 35

I think with a fixed erg I could go sub 1:39. Also my finish sprint with 200m to go was probably a bit too early. Amazing how 500m can develop the nature of an endurance row. Just start sprinting early :D
At least it earned me 25 shiny nonathlon points :D

I look at 1:39.4 and think "I should be able to do that" - but know it's a world of pain I'll regret entering after about 150m. Nice haul of points though...:-)

I can happily report a new SB for the half marathon :D Old time was 1:32:19.7 (2:11.2) and I set myself three targets:

bronze: 1:31:47.0 (2:10.5) -> 5 nonathlon points -> 1 meta nonathlon point
silver: 1:30:51.0 (2:09.1) -> 13 nonathlon points -> 2 meta nonathlon points
gold: 1:29:58.0 (2:07.9) -> 21 nonathlon points -> 3 meta nonathlon points

This is how it went:

_4300 / 2:09.4 / 25
_8600 / 2:08.7 / 25
12900 / 2:07.2 / 25
17200 / 2:03.9 / 25
21097 / 2:01.1 / 26

Total: 1:28:44.1 / 2:06.1 / 25

Very happy with an improvement of more than 3.5 minutes :D I kept my powder dry for the first half. At this point my silver goal was already safe, so time to work on the golden goal with about 10k to go. With about 5k to go this one was also in the bag. I had written down my goals and the according paces beforehand and attached to the erg. Problem now was that I was out of that list and I didn't know which time/pace I needed for yet another meta nonathlon point. The difference in pace between bronze and silver was 1.4 seconds, the difference between silver and gold was 1.2 seconds. So I figured a pace of 2:06.6 (gold pace - 1.3 seconds) should get me a "platinum" goal. As you can imagine the final 5k weren't exactly fun but watching the pace go down by 0.1 seconds roughly every 500m kept me going for the next 500m. Really knackered afterwards but happy with shiny 32 more nonathlon points (and four points for the meta nonathlon) :D

Only problem now is that my SB for the hour (14470m / 2:04.4) is looking a bit weak and needs to be addressed soon :shock:

Great improvement Peter - =D> =D> Our times/distances are pretty close at the moment (my HM is 1:28:36 and my 60 minutes in 14514m).

They are indeed Dave, but you are older and lighter than me so your times are a much bigger achievement (also reflected by your nonathlon score).

I decided that an hour row the day after a half marathon would be too much and had a go at the 10k instead. Time to beat was 40:48.9 (2:02.4). Again I set myself three goals:

bronze: 40:36.0 (2:01.8) -> 5 nonathlon points -> 1 meta nonathlon point
silver: 40:12.0 (2:00.6) -> 13 nonathlon points -> 2 meta nonathlon points
gold: 39:49.0 (1:59.4) -> 21 nonathlon points -> 3 meta nonathlon points

This is how it went:

_2000 / 2:01.7 / 26
_4000 / 2:01.0 / 26
_6000 / 2:00.8 / 26
_8000 / 2:01.0 / 26
10000 / 1:58.8 / 27

Total: 40:14.0 / 2:00.7 / 26

Although I missed my silver goal by two seconds I'm still happy with an improvement of 34.9 seconds. Legs felt heavy from the very beginning, it was a tough row throughout and not much left for a finish sprint. I should try this one again on fresh legs I think :lol: Dave, I can see your season's best is 40:13.3 for the 10k, so again very closely matched :shock:

Couldn't decide between a 1k, a 5k or a 10k last night. With the ctc from the day before in my legs I decided to not hurt myself too much and opted for the 1k. Boy was I wrong!

SB at this point from eleven days ago was 3:31.9 and I hoped to dip under 3:30. This is how it went:

_200 / 1:44.2 / 32 - bringing the start split down nicely
_400 / 1:43.7 / 32 - I'm the king of the world
_600 / 1:44.5 / 30 - what did I just say??? :shock:
_800 / 1:44.7 / 30 - I don't want to do this
1000 / 1:42.5 / 34 - brain shut up!

Total: 3:28.1 / 1:44.0 / 31

This was a lot of work and a lot of pain! It seems I went out too fast as I was really suffering already with still 500m to go. With 400m to go h/d demons were gathering around the erg and whispering in my ear that there would be an easy way out of my dilemma... I didn't answer them, switched off my brain for the final 200m and was knackered but happy afterwards with an improvement of 3.8 seconds :D

I'm sorry to bother you all with yet another SB but I promise it will be the last for a while as my vacation starts tomorrow. I wanted to bunker some meters before my forced absence of the erg so I decided to look at my 10k again, although my SB of 40:14.0 is only three days old. I set myself three goals:

- bronze: 39:57.0 / 5 nonathlon points / 1 meta nonathlon point
- silver: 39:32.0 / 13 nonathlon points / 2 meta nonathlon points
- gold: 39:10.0 / 21 nonathlon points / 3 meta nonathlon points

This is how it went:

_2000 / 1:59.5 / 27
_4000 / 1:59.3 / 26
_6000 / 1:59.1 / 27
_8000 / 1:58.8 / 27
10000 / 1:55.7 / 28

Total: 39:30.5 / 1:58.5 / 27

Really happy to go sub 40 again and surprised by how far I did that. I was rowing mostly at 1:58/1:59 pace for the first 8k and was somewhere between bronze and silver goal at that point. With 1700m to go the overall paced changed from 1:59.0 to 1:58.9 and I thought "hmmm, bring the pace down three more tenth and you'll have your silver goal, how about that?". I tried pulling 1:56s which wasn't enough but was all I could do at that point. So I kept pulling 1:56 until the final 500m. Pace had come down to 1:58.8 meanwhile and I decided to try again. Pulling 1:48/1:47 (no idea where those came from) let the predicted finish jump to 39:32 so I just kept pulling as I suddenly saw a chance to reach the silver goal. The last 200m was just counting strokes but I finally did it :D Very happy with an improvement of 43.5 seconds and 15 shiny nonathlon points :D
