Post by plummy »

After my 4 x 1k interval session on Thursday my legs (and mind) were not in the mood for another sprinty set so at the last minute I decided to get a nice "easy" HM for Crazy Bear tucked away. As per usual, the "steady" start became a bit faster and when <1:29:xx started appearing I remembered my SB was either 1:28:36.x -or was it 1:28:45.x - just couldn't quite remember clearly. Had to ease off and have a couple of drinks in the last 10k but finally saw the last 200m and sprinted as best I could to end up with 1:28:33.5 - a new SB by 3.3 seconds and a total of zero extra Nonathlon points.

An SB is an SB though! :-)

That was a lot of work for - err - zero extra Nonathlon points! But as you say, an SB is an SB! Well done!

I agree with Peter, an SB is an SB. But one tiny Nonathlon point would have been nice though... But respect for your finish ^O^

I know - zero points or in French "nil points" - sounds like the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest. To be fair, I set off thinking just finishing would be OK and anything sub 1:35.00 for a "nice paddle" - so even approaching an SB let alone actually scraping one was a bonus! :-)

A full 3 Nonathlon points for me today for a 6km SB, set during an IRL attempt.
Improved from 22:30 to 22:24.9 at 30 spm on DF 210.
I also took about 5 seconds off my 5k SB going through in 18:44.

Thanks Erik, and well done on the 2k - that distance I really find mentally tough.
I only record one Nonathlon score per row so will have to have another bash at the 5k when I feel up to it

Thanks Peter - although I feel I am really struggling to get back up to speed - going to go back to basics for a while - longer, slow, steady stuff seems to work best for me.

2 SB's today during Crazy Bear challenge -

1:27:42 for the HM
14434m at the 60 min mark.

Neither of these are high scoring results but am still doing my longer stuff on DF 300 strapless, and made my usual mistake of pushing too hard I the middle when I was feeling good, then having a power failure over the last 8-10km.
Normally manage to just about hold a negative split but nowhere near that today - too knackered even to up my rate to keep the pace up!!

Well done anyway, Paul, at least you completed it, in spite of the way you felt during your attempt.
Having some pain in my knee I'm only rowing in a moderate pace now, just focussing on meters for the holiday challenge, not on season's bests or the ongoing challenges. Have to keep that for next month I think.

Thanks Fred - sorry to hear about your knee - you are adopting the right approach by easing off the intensity and keeping your hand in by doing the metres - you will soon be back to where you were.
I adopted the same approach with my back injury and I am fine now.

Very nice SBs there Paul, again you killed two birds with a stone!

Sorry to hear about your knee problems Fred, but like Paul said you chose the right approach to be back at old speed soon!

Felt strong today - the LSD stuff(non-hallucinogenic) is starting to pay off.

Did a 10k at lunchtime on DF 300 strapless and did a comfortable 40:53, so I thought I would do a 15k this evening, also on DF 300 s/s, and try and better my 14434m 60 min from Saturday.
Ended up with 14887m at 24.6 spm which I was really pleased with - managed to negative split doing 20:31, 20:02 and 19:53 for the 5k splits.

Sounds like a good idea to take some of the intensity off while your knee is not having it´s finest moment, Fred :!:

Really strong hour of power (literally power), Paul, and strong finish with sub 2:00 av. in the last section :!: =D> =D> =D>

Happy with my half marathon new SB tonight as I knocked 1 minute and 1.4 seconds off and was only about 9 seconds away from a 2 year SB. Neg splits throughout.

New time is 1:27:32.1 - 26 spm

The last 2.5k was pretty horrible though - but that makes me think I might be able to push on my 60 minutes SB as my HM tonight was 2:04.4 pace and my 60 mins SB is 2:03.1 pace.

Nice, Dave - you know what you have to do now though  .

SB for 5000m while putting down a marker for the December IRL.

Time : 18:39.8
DF : 222
SPM : 29.6

Felt quite tough, but I had done a toughish 12k earlier today so that probably didn't help :) :) .

New SB for the HM today. Knocked a very healthy 37 seconds or so off it and in the process beat my 2016/17 best by about 29 seconds as well. Bar one exact same score the splits were negative and averaged 26SPM

1:26:53.4 - yep, very happy with that. Also, the average pace works out at only 15m below my current 60 minutes SB pace for 6.5km further distance....one to go for soon as well methinks
