Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
I have 3 new personal bests in the last couple of months.
13th Oct – 10K 39:04.2 only a 2 second improvement on last season, so happy I could still do it.
21st Oct – 1/2M 1:24:09.9 only 3.2 seconds improvement on last season, so again, happy I could still do it.
30th Oct – failed Marathon
5th Nov – failed Marathon
13th Nov – needed a confidence boost so easy Marathon 2:5917.7
26rd Nov – failed Marathon but done about 26k in bits.
27th Total fed up with so many bad rows over the last month and with another failure the day before set for yet another attempt, though my thoughts were more about getting some more meters behind me to start with. This time I started slower at a 2:05 pace for the first 3,517M then into about a 2:04.3 seemed comfortable. At 17.5k ramped it up a little to 2:04.1 for the next 7K. Then I started to struggle, (thinking about it afterwards think I was having trouble with digesting the sports drink I had started taking about a half hour beforehand). The pace dropped back again to 2:04.4 for the next 3.5K then 2:05 then 2:05.9 the HD demons were well and truly established and even paused a couple of times for a second or two but managed to shake them off. By now I was really struggling even though the heart rate was good at 145. With just 10.5K to go I was still had a chance of getting a good time so plodded on the next 3.5K at an even slower 2:06.3. 7K to go, slowed to 2:06.5. (heart rate now 150) The last 3.5K split I slowed even more till I saw I might be able to hold on for a sub 2:56:00, so concentrated as much as I could on keeping my time below that. Then with 1K to go twinges of cramp started flickering in my legs, so I knew there was no chance of a last all-out effort, the cramp would surly overpower me. So I just had to keep a steady pace till finally the meter reading turned to 0. After a while of being slumped over, I unstrapped the feet, and enjoyed the sight of a 2:55:51 knocking off 2:43 of my old PB. A drink of milk, a banana and a Crampex tablet was the first priority. Rested for about a half an hour, then shower and then to bed with the electric blanket on, to try and keep the cramp away. Had to keep still as possible for the next 3 hours, as most parts of my body needed very little encouragement to cramp up.
Next day I emailed my claim for the British record for a marathon, in the Male 60-70 Hwt. category.
Two weeks later no news so presumed that it was because I had use my email from work rather than my C2 email address. But thought as I’m going to try for a better time ( hopefully soon), and if I can do better, then I would claim using my C2 email address.
Having a few days rest before I try, and also finding something more digestible energy drink might help .
Then yesterday I saw it.

First I thought "cool, someone managed a new PB" when I started reading your post, but in the end it turned out to be a new british record! I think you're being too modest by posting it here. This achievement very well deserves its own thread! =D> =D> =D>

Dayum, that is quite something. =D>
Can really understand those aborted attempts in the lead up to the record, after I had troubles with cramping and occasional numbness near the end of a mere HM.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Hello!
Today I rowed 2nd 2000m in this season and made a new PR 9.08,9/avg 2.17,2/20. I'm very pleased with it. Rather slow start but last 500m was exellent (for my standards). Now I have very good basic result to improve my future rows.
500m/2.21,5
1000m/ 2.20,2
1500m/ 2.15,7
2000m/ 2.11,5
I still have 2 old records (10/2010) that need update. They are 5k and 30min. Also 4 min needs rerow perhaps next month if I'll try CTC second time.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Shaved 26 seconds off my 10k time yesterday. Not sure why I'm doing so well here and haven't really hit my stride on the 30min row yet. Haven't really tried to "best" any of the shorter rows yet this year.
I keep saying this year cuz I was lazy and didn't start back up rowing until late December - a full 10 weeks past my last mountain bike ride (on which I injured my leg which is part of my list of excuses)...

Weird - another PB on the 10k; shaving an additional 38 seconds without even realizing I was in the running for it. I thought I was taking it easy other than the sprint in the last 500m.Draggon wrote:Shaved 26 seconds off my 10k time yesterday. I think "shaving" is perhaps a little modest- more like brutally hacking! Nice improvement Draggon and it sounds like there is much more to come yet.

Well done, Draggon! 38 seconds on a 10k is a strong improvement... especially when you thought you were taking it easy.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thanks, guys. Not sure where it's coming from other than meters on the machine. My goal was limiting to 20'ish SPM with max HR of 145. Held it pretty well 'til the last 1500M... (other than that oddball 23.4 SPM in the second set - don't remember stroking that fast...) You can see I even slowed down for 500M at 8000M - since my heart rate hit 145, I wanted to give it some recovery.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
I guess rowing on a real boat (i.e. a 3300 passenger cruise ship) is inspirational... another 10k PB at 40.57.7 (improvement of just over 26 seconds!) I didn't know it 'til afterward, but I came within 28 meters of my 30 Minute PB the day before so have to settle for an SB instead on that one.
The bad news is a case of bronchitis now has me not wanting to row at all...
Rowing on the ship was kind of interesting. The Model E was aligned port/starboard, so when the ship rolled a bit you could definitely feel it in the effort or lack thereof required to pull the stroke. I'll have to blame the relatively rough seas on Saturday for my 10k improvement!

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Huge chunk of meters added to your PB so well done! Looks very good to me. It's only poorly paced when you're the one rowing it.
All joking aside it takes a lot of determination and mental/physical toughness to head out at that pace, realize it's a bit ambitious and be able to hang on and even crank it back up at the end. =D>
