Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Great PBs everyone!!
Very inspiring! Feeling the urge to try a FM soon. Tried my first HM (1:27:52.2 / 2:04.9) on the 8th and enjoyed it.
As this is my 1st season PB=SB and easy to improve /set and 1st attempt = PB
After visitors left after a great weekend, I could start rowing again and felt the urge to go for some sprints as I cannot see how to improve the 10k that put me in boat I for the C2CTC
So new PBs:
1000m:
From 3:36.4 / 1:48.2
To 3:21.6 / 1:40.8
After I went for:
500m:
From 1:41.0
To 1:34.2
After I started it all with
100m:
From 0:19.3 / 1:36.5
To 0:18.6 / 1:33.0

That's a very impressive set of PBs Tako, well done! =D> Do I understand it correctly that they were all done in one sitting? If so I'd like to know what you had to eat during that weekend?

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
All the sprints were done yesterday before I joined Pam's 30 min session on RowPro and the cd of 2k.
The HM was done the week before.
The energy must be based on 4-days abstinence from rowing, spending time with great friends and a lot of cake from the birthday party.....

Tako, well done for those impressive times - do you have the cake recipe
I'm a bit worried that you enjoyed your first HM though, I thought rowing was all about suffering
Let us know how you enjoy your first FM, when you feel you're ready for it!

The cake recipe is the secret of my mother in law, a lot of sugar, cream and strawberries
Well I guess the excitement of rowing longer than an hour nonstop for the first time and the happiness after completing the HM made me ignore the pain or at least focus on the positive things; like points for the nonathlon and another certificate for my "wall of motivation"

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Just rowed a new personal best for the half marathon with a time of 1h 26m 45s (an improvement of 28 seconds).
I'm still planning on attempting a new PB for 30 minute row. Just haven't found time to fit it in to my current rowing schedule which is currently filled with longer distances.

The HM is a difficult distance for a PB attempt! -- a lot of time invested, and not something you can attempt several times in a month to 'zero-in' on the correct pacing. Cheers,

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thanks. Afterwards I felt that if my preparation had been a little better (more sleep in the couple of days preceding) I could have gone faster. So today I made another attempt and set a new PB for with a time of 1h 26m 8.7s (an improvement of 36.3 seconds on last weekend).zootMutant wrote:Well done! =D> =D> =D>Lordofgreasby wrote:Just rowed a new personal best for the half marathon with a time of 1h 26m 45s (an improvement of 28 seconds).

I had better preparation and left nothing on the rower. My fingers are a bit sore now but it was well worth it.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
What a day!
In the weekend I felt a bit down as weight started going up again and after some cake I put the anger into the 1k sprint for the C2CTC yesterday; result was new PB of 3:16.9 (pace 1:38.4). Today I felt good and went for a new PB for the 30min on RowPro. After two third I was going for 8k (PB was 7700), but the erg slided back twice and I had to get off and put it back and start rowing again. However, I still managed a new PB of 7800m. High on the joy and hormones I thought I give the IRL a try and rowed my first ever 6344m (hence another PB, 3rd in two days) of 24:38.9 (pace 1:56.5). So now I feel really gooood and ready for the shower

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thank you all!!!
Today I wanted to take it easy, but then one of the other RowPro rowers motivated me to try again, and the result was 7967m with only sliding off once. So damn close to the 8k. Getting there
Any advice on where to calculate the time/distances for shorter rows when one did a great long one, thinking of the nonathlon

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Hi Tako
There's a rule of thumb called Pete's Law. This states that the pace per 500m gets slower by 5 seconds for each doubling of the distance for a rower who is equally balanced between strength and endurance. In practice, I have found this to be a reasonably good guide, with 500m (and less) and the FM tending to be outliers. While the difference won't be exactly 5 seconds for most people, it will tend to be between 4 and 6 seconds, with very strong weight lifter types tending to have a higher difference and lightweights tending to have a lower difference.
As the scale is logarithmic, the expected difference relative to 2k pace based on a 5 second difference for each doubling of the distance is as follows:
Distance Compared to 2k pace
500 -10.00
1,000 -5.00
2,000 0.00
5,000 6.61
6,000 7.92
10,000 11.61
21,097 16.99
42,195 22.00
For 30 minutes and 60 minutes, the expected difference depends on the distance covered and is therefore dependent on the pace per 500m for the 2k and is likely to be somewhere between 9 and 10 seconds for 30 minutes and between 14 and 15 seconds for an hour.
Hope this helps.

Hello Tako,
"Utilities => Free Spirits Race Predictor" link at the top of the page or at Free Spirits Race Predictor
Building upon this, Thomas built a utility to help calculate any time or distance based on two very strong rows. You can find it under thePaul Victory wrote:There's a rule of thumb called Pete's Law...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thanks Paul and Zoot, I will try it out to set some nice medal goals like Peter does. So far I have been rowing without planning, just following the urge to loose weight and follow the "target" (Challenges, meterboard, RowPro GenFit...). Current long term "goals", reaching first million ever, participation in a real event (probably Norwegian championships) and at the same time chasing Peter in the meterboard

First 2k under 9:00
8:55.0 2,000m 2:13.7 146 802 29 152
2:14.8 500m 2:14.8 143 791 29 134
2:14.5 1,000m 2:14.5 144 795 29 149
2:13.1 1,500m 2:13.1 148 809 29 160
2:12.6 2,000m 2:12.6 150 816 30 167
Hurt a bit. Not sure I can do much better than this for a while.
I may have been able to beat this 4 years ago, when I did a lot of rowing, but that was nearly all 10k sessions.
Only the CTC and the Nonalthon have made me tidy up my PBs at the shorter distances.
Got up to nearly 170 on HR, which I didn't want to push. I guess I've been rowing again for a few months, though, so it should be getting the message

Cheers, both.
Not sure how long it will be before I get to sub-8:00, but I guess gradual cardio-respiratory capacity building will do it in the end.
