I guess it has to be a PB since it is my first ever marathon, 3:14:21.8, not setting the world on fire obviously, but it was my first one, and sub 3:15 was all I hoped for, so I am pretty happy with it.

Nice job, Jarflax! Did you have to 'sprint' to get the sub 3:15 or did you just plan your splits as such?

I didn't plan my splits, I started out slow and as I warmed up kept pushing my pace (just slightly faster than an effortless pace) until about 90 min in, when I started pushing to the point of pain. I had gas in the tank to "sprint" the last bit, but honestly I do not really pay much attention to split times when rowing, even when trying to do a good pace I just watch the overall wattage, or pace, or calorie burn rate (depending on what happens to be up on my display  ) and make a game of seeing if/how much I can move that overall needle.

I did take Friday and Saturday off, and did an hour on Sunday to "prepare" but for the most part my rowing routine is all about putting in hours, since my overall goal is to burn many calories so I keep the weight I struggled to lose from coming back  Paradoxically I think I row too much to ever really train for pace improvement.

Wow sounds like it went well. You're also king of the meterboard last I checked, which is much harder than any single FM!

Happy new year James!

I'm such a weird rower. I rarely have specific goals when I get on the rower other than "30 Minutes" or "10K". I row mostly for fitness, but the pursuit of PB's is kind of fun sometimes, too. Since this was my first row of the 2018 season, I thought I'd roll out a 10K and see how high I could set all my regular SB's. The result was a pretty erratic row, but par for the course for me. Pacing was all over the map... I love the 2:16 recovery pace from 7500 to 8000 just after setting a 30 Minute PB...

Anyway, looks like I could have set new PB's across the board if I'd been aware of what they were and/or how close I was to each one.

Sorry - I find this stuff amusing... :D

Second day ever on a rowing machine yesterday,
I tried a 500m (1:49.4)and since I do not have any previous result I think I will count that as a PB.

David, that's a very nice time for a 5k. What's your sporting background? You clearly have a good base fitness in order to do such good times on the erg even though you're relatively new to it.

Thanks. I cycled during my 20s (haven't been on the road for well over a year). Yes, probably a decent aerobic base. Rowing a little easier on my time than cycling plus gives a good all over body workout. Enjoying it. I think in order to do significantly better I would need some strength training e.g looking at your 500m pb, I couldnt physically pull that for 20 secs let alone 500m! That said, I think Im better at rowing than I ever was cycling..

While speculating whether I might be overtrained (as I feel weak and sleep badly these days) I also saw that the mile for the IRL was pretty fast (5:28 @ 1:41.9), as it was just 0.4s faster than my IRL last year; hence a PB for the mile.

Today I felt like going for THE test and try the 2k (PB 6:59.9) and after an easy warm up of 4k I managed to shave off 2.8s.
So new PB for the 2k in 6:57.1 @ 1:44.2 :-) :-) (giving me 20 more points for the nonathlon as well).... so pretty happy!

Does that sound like overtrained?

Also this season is my first that I started from May 1st, as I started to use my Erg last year summer. And after half season I have 7k a day, which is also a kind of PB ;-)

Thanks Paul, Dave and Peter!

Hope to attack my PBs for the 500 & 1000m soon in order to get a bit more green in the meta-nonathlon, before returning to the PetePlan.

Having my picture on the FS website (sometimes when checking the Meterboard) helps with the motivation as well, due to the great memories connected to it ;-) Although I still think Dave asked for a too big head start on the 10k that day :-) :-) Which was my second best time ever; so maybe also time to go for that PB soon. Well, let's see.

Well, let's see.
That was a plan until I had a new one. Seeing my chance to climb a spot in the Meterboard I did my 3rd ever FM today.
Did on in June (3:23:23) and one in July (3:29:35). New PB today with 3:21:19.

Really wondering why I do these FMs?!? I do seem to forget pretty fast how hard they are, why else do it again and even a third time????

Thanks Paul!

I have to admit that passing you in the Meterboard was part of the motivation to do a FM today as you passed me when I was knocked out for a few days.

According to the Nonathlon scores my strongest pieces are the 5k, 6k, 10k and 30min.
Sprints are not that easy as I struggle to get high stroke rates and probably bad technique makes the Erg move.
