Thanks for the vote of confidence Peter
TBH I am recovering quicker than I expected - I have lowered the DF on my longer rows and don't really feel hampered at 1:50 + pace.
At this stage I am still wary of the CTC but am confident I will be able to give it a good go in the next few weeks, in the meantime doing the long, slow, steady stuff, as I watch your SB' go further away from me   .

Just checked the current score and it looks great! As we already have 8 valid entries we are on top of the table for now :-)

Nice one Tako! You beat my adjusted score by 0.6 seconds, it seems I must have another go at this one  :fswink:

Tried again but my lungs wouldn't play along after 4km in so had to back off for about 2k but managed an 18.3s improvement to 25:15.5.

Sort of happy to finish it given how bad it felt but I really wanted to duck under 25 minutes...:-(

Still a very nice improvement Dave! Sub 25 is on the cards on a good day, no doubt about that!

After a failed attempt yesterday when I had to slow down considerably with 1500m to go I tried again tonight. Time to beat was 24:08.2 (1:54.1) and I was hoping to finally go sub 24. When I ran out of puff yesterday I was at 1:53.8 pace. Having that in mind the plan for tonight was to not overcook it and stay exactly at 1:54.1 pace until the final k and then see what‘s doable. This is how it went:

1269 / 1:54.1 / 28 / 156
2538 / 1:54.2 / 28 / 164
3807 / 1:54.3 / 28 / 169
5076 / 1:53.9 / 28 / 175
6344 / 1:51.9 / 29 / 182

Total: 24:02.8 / 1:53.7

The first sector felt ok but already in the second one the legs started to feel heavy, most probably as a result from yesterday‘s try. It didn‘t get better in sector 2 and 3 so I had to slow down a bit to ensure I‘d finish. I managed to fight it back a bit in sector #4. With 1000 to go I was finally back at 1:54.1 pace. Now it was time to work my way towards 1:54.0 and quicker. No 1:54s allowed from that point, occasional 1:52s are very welcome! 750m to go, finally down to 1:54.0 overall pace. Next stop at 600m to go. Oh dear, I want to stop right now! Next stop 500m to go. Legs are burning but split is down to 1:53.9. Ha! Keep going, try 1:50s now! 200m to go, time for a finish sprint and just counting strokes now. Last ten big ones and I‘m home! Totally wasted after this row. After the first 2k it was a constant fight in my head against handling down, so I‘m happy with an improvement by 5,4 seconds. On the other hand I really would have loved to finally go sub 24. Well, maybe next time...

After some failed attempts earlier this week decided to have another go and now just aim for the 24 minutes. Started and a 1:53 pace felt quite comfortable at the beginning, decided to try and keep that pace. I was able to though the comfort of the beginning didn't last very long. Only the last 200 mtrs or so were a bit faster, and I ended in 23:53.0. Pleased with that and feeling the way I feel now (and while rowing) I don't think there will be a faster time this month.

Great row there Fred, very committed from the binning! You picked a pace and stuck with it throughout almost 85 % of the distance without much being left for a decent finish sprint. Seems you got the pacing spot on although I don‘t think that final part was much fun!

We seem to have develpoed a habit of you bettering your time almost immediately after I have bettered mine :D I might have another go in the month because I want to finally go sub 24 on this. If I succeed you might have to have one more go too :fswink:

Improve your time, Peter, I think you will be save this time. I don't know whether I can bring myself to have another go. But apart from the internal competition it's good for the teamresult.

Another great effort there, Peter. =D> =D>
And a stonking effort from Fred too. ^O^ ^O^ .

In similar vein to Fred I managed to complete the session after 4 HD's in 2 days - had the initial aim of just completing the distance, under my 24:28 initial attempt.
Set the footplate higher so I could get a better leg drive, even though the stroke would be shorter thus raising my spm.
Managed to just about negative split after speeding up a bit too quickly in the middle section.
As I got deeper into the row I refocused to try and beat your effort, and then targeted sub-24, and finally Fred's very strong 23:53.

Tale of the Tape :

1300m - 1:55.4 @ 28spm
2600m - 1:53.5 @ 29spm
3900m - 1:51.3 @ 30spm
5200m - 1:49.8 @ 31spm
6344m- 1:49.8 @ 32spm

Total 23:41.8 on DF 210

I gave it absolutely everything and can't see myself attempting this again.
I think I am going to have to concede this month to Tako's brilliant effort.

I enjoy it as well, though not very competitive by nature I think it's challenging to strive for good times every month.
I row to stay in shape, but sometimes think what I could do to perform better. But it takes enough time already, so that's out of the question.

Brilliant row there Paul, good to see your recovery has been going well! I too like the internal competition, like Fred said, it also helps the team score. Let‘s see if we can keep the positive trend of getting a higher team score every month. We started with 91.24% followed by 92.66% in October.

As it's getting towards the end of the month, I decided I'd better put in an entry for the 6344 meters challenge. It was only my 3rd time on the erg this month and I hd'ed on my previous attempt at this challenge.

So today I set out just to finish without worrying about the time. It was even slower than I thought it would be - 28:08.0 @ 2:13.0 pace.

But at least I got it done!

Well done on getting it done Paul!

I had my third and probably last attempt at this and after disappointing effort last time (despite a 15s improvement), I managed to dip under 25:00.0 this time with a 24:58.9.
It was a bit on the ragged edge with lots of counting strokes and avoiding looking at the PM as it didn't move anything like as fast as I wanted it to.
Nearly neg splits but 4k~5k was a little dip just to get the metres counted off
So - that's another 16.6s nibbled away

Great efforts everyone!

I still think that my time can be credited to the Erg in the Fitness Studio. Really wonder why I am faster in the gym than at home. Is it the space, the view, the air flow...?!?
Anyway, happy to have rowed a strong time that despite adjustments keeps me in the top 8 results ;-)

Like all of you I enjoy the competition whether it is here in the IRL, the C2CTC or the Meterboard ;-)

Great to see us so high on the table. Let's see whether we can stay there!

Very nice row Dave, you went sub 25 finally which you had been wanting to do for so long! Maybe you should have a look at your 6k. I think your SB of 23:33.3 is looking a bit weak now...

I had my second go at the November CTC today. I managed to improve my time from 28:08.0 to 26:30.4, but I still have by far the slowest adjusted time of any Free Spirit this month. But at least it's a step in the right direction.

After a few weeks with only sporadic rowing I finally posted a time for the IRL. Nothing to be proud of; my fitness has slipped a great deal but I gave it a shot. 26:39.5, which does not help our team. Good news is there was no wrist or elbow pain, so hopefully I can get back to a regular routine and start the 5K Pete Plan next week.

Thanks for your row Chuck, every result is welcome! Good to hear that your wrist and elbow aren't acting up and good luck with your further recovery! The 5k Pete Plan comes in due time for the December challenge.

The November challenge has come to an end and it seems we could keep up the positive trend re team score from the previous rounds:

September: 91.24%
October: 92.66%
November: 93.02%

That puts us in 8th position overall (used to be 10th) out of 49 teams. Well done all and good luck with the December challenge (5000m)! :fswink:
